Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is aimed at three different audiences. The first are fans of Final Fantasy VII who wanted more context on Zack Fair, one of the game’s most important characters. The second are those who got into FFVII (and Final Fantasy at large) through 2020’s Final...
Impale
The return of old-school shooters continues to march on with Apptivus’ rogue-like Impaler. Calling itself a “minimalist arena shooter”, the game is easy to pick up and get right into the madness of waves of creatures. While that excitement doesn’t last very long, for only USD $2.99, this experience is...
Floodland is a new post-apocalyptic civilisation simulator and city builder in the vein of Frostpunk and Endzone. You can probably guess from the name, this game’s apocalypse was a wet one — a natural disaster described only as ‘The Event’ has flooded the globe, leaving only a few straggling groups...
Creating a spiritual successor to one of the most loved horror video games of all time is a tall task, but if anybody could do it, it’s developer Striking Distance Studios. A new team created by industry veteran Glen Schofield, who is credited as one of the creators of the...
You load onto the battlefield. Before long, your team is in harmony. The Hunter is whipping hydra forces around the map to an almost pinballing effect, wiping the floor clean. Ghost Rider mows down another group with their 1969 Dodge Charger (otherwise known as The Hell Charger). You win. Then...
Soccer Story is a rather charming little RPG/sports sim title by No More Robots, where you must restore the joy of soccer to a land where amateur games have been banned by the villainous Soccer Inc. Although the goofy-yet-earnest premise and vibrant world and NPCs make it delightful to initially...
Pick up your hat, your badge, and the keys to your paddy wagon – it’s policing time. After entering Early Access in 2021, Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is ready to release on PC and consoles. Promising a realistic experience of life as a police officer in a typical American city,...
Pokémon Violet
The newest generation of Pokémon has arrived with the release of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Unlike the somewhat spinoff nature of Legends: Arceus from back in January, this dual release marks this year’s proper mainline entry into the biggest gaming franchise in the world. Whilst that nostalgia-fueled dopamine hit still...
Evil West
There’s something special about the feeling of the Wild West; the unease yet beauty of the landscape, the dog eat dog nature of survival, the cowboy hats. This year, there have been a few Western games that rebuild the world of the dusty, savage landscape of 16-1800s America into one...
Gungrave G.O.R.E is the newest mainline followup to the Gungrave arcade shooter franchise, developed by Korean studio Iggymob. The series has been dormant for some time, having not seen a mainline release since 2004 (Gungrave VR in 2019 notwithstanding). While the game is certainly competent as a shooter and contains...
Goat Simulator 3 is a third-person sandbox adventure game developed by Coffee Stain Studios and published by Coffee Stain North Publishing. Even though it’s called Goat Simulator 3, it’s only the second instalment in the Goat Simulator series, which started with the release of the original Goat Simulator in 2014....
Harvestella
Harvestella left a big impression on me when it was first announced during a Nintendo Direct a few months ago, even though a farming sim crossed with a JRPG isn’t necessarily a new idea with franchises like Rune Factory still releasing games. Harvestella caught my eye with its art direction,...
