Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar makes efforts to condense the farming sim formula down to something simpler and more manageable. The game map is small, which keeps everything you need just a few seconds away at all times. On the other hand, the game doesn’t allow you to upgrade anything, which forces you to focus on what you have and not what you can build. It may not be for everyone, but Grand Bazaar does make for a nice entry point into this genre.

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar really does set a new standard for when it comes to remaking these classic experiences from the DS era, and I hope we see many more of these titles in the future. But sadly, perhaps in due to my own experiences with the PS5 platform I can't help but feel just how much better it is to just play while resting on your bed, or maybe during those mundane moments where a game like this is just the ticket to unwind.

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar offers steady and reliable gameplay with an excellent balance between consistency and novelty that keeps you engaged through its many hours of content. There are plenty of small details and design choices which help to elevate the experience, and while, equally, some of the game’s systems could use a few tweaks, it’s an easy recommendation for fans of the genre.

Amongst my many, many silly ideas, becoming a farmer has to rank pretty high amongst them. My long-suffering partner will roll their eyes out of their sockets when I talk about growing crops, herding the sheep in and working outside, not least because I have zero experience in this field. But not anymore! If Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar is anything to go by, I’ll be very good at being a farmer, not least because I’m willing to push myself to the point of exhaustion, I’ll work in torrential rain, and because a lot of your time seems to be spent chatting.

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar it’s a good farming game that sucks you in with its visuals and audio, stays cozy without being childish, and keeps a steady pace to stay engaging. The customization has come a long way from other games in the series; the town feels alive, and the chickens appreciate my forgetful nature. My time playing Grand Bazaar feels like working on a jigsaw puzzle: it takes time, but it is very rewarding once everything ends up pretty, the villagers feel happy, and my potatoes fly off the shelves. I am now attached to this farm, frantically running around, second-guessing my romance choices from the eligible bachelors. This is the good life.

I do have a few complaints about the game, primarily regarding quality-of-life features. In particular, the fact that recipes for food and crafting can’t be seen from the menu is something I sorely missed. Perhaps the ability to craft from storage is asking for a bit too much ease of use, but it would also vastly improve the windmill functionality. Another small grievance is the music, which can become repetitive. It’s not egregiously annoying, though, and as someone who often played while watching television or listening to music, it wasn’t a dealbreaker.

If you’re in the mood for an engaging, endearing, and cute farming game, Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar should tickle your pickle with aplomb. It might not have the depth of other farming sims, but it's fantastic to control, and the well-written (and voiced) characters alongside the many tasks and calendar packed with events to occupy your time, make you feel like part of a bustling little community. I fell in love with Zephyr Town, and thanks to the satisfying gameplay and intricately connected web of rewards, I can't see myself putting it down any time soon.
