Remnant: From the Ashes Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Remnant: From the Ashes offers a healthy dose of punishing enemies while soothing a player's wounds with an adequate amount of storyline and interesting places to explore and characters to meet.
By taking the best bits of a few different genres, Gunfire Games has come up with an exceptional formula here, and brought us the surprise hit of the year. Sure, it’ll take you a while to “git gud”, but it actually feels like it’s worth the practice.
Remnant: From the Ashes is a survival-action shooter featuring dynamic worlds, intense tactical combat and strategic 4 player co-op.
Whenever I hear the term ‘Soulsbourne’ used to describe a game, I usually roll my eyes. But not only does Remnant: From the Ashes embrace this descriptor, it
Last year's action RPG hit Remnant: From the Ashes now has a swanky new physical release so I figured it's about time to check it out.
“Dark Souls with guns”. This is how most people I know have initially described Remnant: From the Ashes, originally released in 2019 to some surprisingly positive reception. It wasn’t exactly the kind of game that would end up winning awards, but everyone I know who has played it really enjoyed it. It was the perfect example of a AA game filling a specific niche with honors. One thing everyone praised about it, besides the fact it was a soulslike with an emphasis on guns, was its fun on...

Thankfully, boss encounters give you a checkpoint before the blatantly ripped off Souls fog wall to enter the arena, which greatly reduces the frustration.
Remnant: From the Ashes is a somewhat overlooked 2019 title currently free for all PS Plus members. Gunfire Games' brutally challenging Action RPG 3rd Person Shooter is as charming as it is challenging and is an absolute must have for gamers who enjoy punishing themselves during their downtime.
Remnant: From the Ashes came out of nowhere but quickly managed to leave an impression. Fortunately, it's a good one.
Let me see if you’ve heard this one before: it’s a lot like Dark Souls. Heard that? Over the last few years, many games have taken the Dark Souls-like gamep
One of the reasons I joined Checkpoint is my pure love of games. I’ve played through hundreds of games over the years. Naturally this allowed for me to learn what does and doesn’t work for me in titles. Take a bit from this game and a little from that, oh and maybe a bit of that one. Rarely have I found a game that’s amalgamated everything I love from games in one single package. Remnant: From The Ashes, from Darksiders II developer Gunfire Games, is one of those games.
