Beast of Reincarnation Review - Budding With Ambition
Please reincarnate into something with a better framerate.
Beast of Reincarnation left me surprised in several ways and expertly blends several aspects from popular titles like From Software's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to Square Enix's Final Fantasy 16. Most importantly, though, developer Game Freak has taken its experience with its Pokémon games and crafted an entirely new and engaging game, delivering some of the best and most satisfying combat I've seen in a long time, and a narrative that will keep you guessing until the credits roll. It's not perfect and has a fair number of issues, but it has a worthy payoff.
Game Freak borrows liberally from the genre's biggest hits. And while it's messy and muddled, it's salvaged by exhilara…
Beast of Reincarnation is an intriguing detour for Pokemon developer Game Freak, but it sadly doesn't live up to expectations.
Review: It has numerous issues, but give Beast of Reincarnation some time and it's very likely to grow on you.
Game Freak continues to surprise us.
Beast of Reincarnation is a fantastic ARPG that helps push Game Freak out of Pokémon’s shadow. Its expressive and deep combat system offers players a plethora of abilities that allow for long-running combos, intense encounters, and just overall a fun time. The inclusion of a command-based system was brilliant, as it adds a layer of strategy to the flow of combat and makes the experience feel unique compared to others in the genre. While not all bosses are memorable, each of them offers an exciting dance of parrying, dodging, and finding the right moment to strike. I had a blast with Beast of Reincarnation, and I can’t wait to jump into a second playthrough in New Game Plus.
A solid and mostly successful attempt at a new IP by Game Freak, with a Soulslike-esque action game that’s a little longer than it needs to be and held back by a dull story and cast.
Fortunately, the uneven story never extends to its central characters. Emma and Koo are an immediately compelling pair, and their bond gives the adventure an emotional core beyond its combat. Their relationship prevents Beast of Reincarnation from feeling like a purely mechanical action game and turns it into a more heartfelt experience.
Game Freak crafts a compelling Soulslite with Beast of Reincarnation, but it's let down by performance and a bit of jank.
Beast of Reincarnation is is Game Freak's first real foray outside their comfort zone, and despite some missteps where pacing is concerned, it shows massive potential.
It's not perfect, but this parry-centric scrapper has a distinctive mood and often excellent combat.
Game Freak’s latest is an uninspired adventure, but one with great action and combat…
Beast of Reincarnation is a bold new title from Game Freak that liberally takes inspiration from a handful of other games, including Pokémon, but manages to twist it all into something charmingly unique.
Beast of Reincarnation presents itself like a Souls-like action RPG, and it definitely shares some traits with games of that ilk, but I think labelling it that way isn't quite accurate.
From the makers of Pokémon comes a familiar souls-like formula.
Beast of Reincarnation delivers fantastic combat and a great world to explore. Find out what we thought in our Beast of Reincarnation PS5 review!
Beast of Reincarnation is an incredible Action RPG that stunned me with its engaging combat, worthwhile progression, and surprisingly solid Steam Deck performance.
Beast of Reincarnation shows Game Freak’s potential at being something other than the people behind Pokémon. Does it work out?
Beast of Reincarnation is a delightful action RPG buried under a mountain of extraneous mechanics and incoherent plot beats.
If you love action games that are set in fantastical post-apocalyptic worlds then I have a special game for you; here's Beast of Reincarnation.
Final Weapon takes a deep dive into Beast of Reincarnation, the new action RPG from the developers of Pokémon, in this review.
Beast of Reincarnation's greatest strength is its sense of exploration, with excellent traversal and a beautifully atmospheric world. Although its story and technical issues prevent it from reaching greater heights, Game Freak delivers a solid action RPG with plenty of potential.
Game Freak’s Soulslike action RPG show the Pokémon studio at its most ambitious
Beast of Reincarnation offers deep combat, flexible skill trees, and satisfying parries, but its flat characters and predictable story hold it back.
Beast of Reincarnation has some great ideas and does them justice enough to be included, but very few aspects feel as special.
Beast of Reincarnation, despite some of its flaws, is a well-designed, beautiful, and engaging action RPG with several unique and well-executed elements.
Game Freak's biggest multiplatform game yet is also its best, blooming with charm despite some technical and presentation hangups.
Game Freak's sword-swinging action game blooms, albeit unsteadily.
Game Freak channels traditional third-person action-adventure tropes and wraps them in a lush post-apocalyptic setting.
Although not very original, Beast of Reincarnation is a solid action RPG with a lot of heart that will stand as one of the best games of 2026.
Beast of Reincarnation is a superb action RPG with an intriguing story, that shows the full creative power of Game Freak.
This is a review of Beast of Reincarnation, played on an Xbox Series X, Xbox Ally X, and Desktop PC.
Beast of Reincarnation's narrative takes place far after mankind's decline, with nature having once again reclaimed Mother Earth for its own. Players assume the role of Emma, a gifted, or more aptly, cursed individual known as a Sealer.
Despite the potential its parry-based combat and overgrown world bring, Beast of Reincarnation fails to grow outside of its opening hours. Read our review to find out more.
Featuring a rich world ripe for exploration and deep, impactful combat, Beast of Reincarnation is a fantastic action RPG worthy of all adventurers this summer.
Beast of Reincarnation delivers rewarding, parry-focused combat and a genuinely likable partnership between Emma and Koo. Repetitive enemies and pacing issues..
