Hades Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Action roguelikes is a genre seeing a bit of a surge of new entires lately, and Hades is as good or better as anything you will find in that field. It offers an overall experience in storytelling and gameplay that is top-notch regardless of genre. It's this incredibly unique type of game and play loop that turns your every failure and death into a reward of unlocking more story, injecting more humor, and inviting you to take a stab at one more run. It's won numerous game of the year awards on PC, and there is no reason for those accolades to stop with the port to consoles. Just don't forget to...
Hades’ ability to blend its narrative with its addictive gameplay makes for an incredibly enjoyable game that can entice even those who have never tried the genre.
It wasn’t too long ago that COVID-19 forced us all into our homes, making 2020 one of the worst years of our everyday lives. For the video game industry, things ground to a halt and we saw many delays. As the year went on and boredom slowly began to turn…
Whenever I play a new Supergiant title, I always find myself absolutely enthralled with it, transfixed by its visual allure and engaging gameplay. After playing their second title Transistor, I was convinced that they wouldn’t be able to top themselves, but I stand corrected. Hades is a perfect amalgamation of everything that makes Supergiant Games one of the best independent developers out there, with a killer gameplay loop, heartfelt story, and writing that will have you hinging on every single word. This game deserves all the attention it’s getting and more, and I implore you to play it for...
I knew Hades would be a great hybrid of an action RPG and a croissant, but it also turned out to be a great game for mature players. It skillfully deals with serious topics, but it also does something else. He respects our time.
We started off this review by asking if Hades lives up to the praise and expectations. And the answer (which should be obvious if you’ve been paying attention) is a resounding YES. Hades has perfected several elements of the rogue-like genre and does a banging job on the rest. It is, by far, the best game of its type that I’ve played. But don’t let the words “rogue-like” scare you off – it is made in such a way that it is appealing to both fans and non-fans of the genre alike.
Hades is one of the few near-perfect games not only on the Steam Deck, but in existence.
Hades is an excellent action game that allows players to find progression even in death. Roguelikes are normally known for their high level of difficulty, but in Hades, the greatest challenge you’ll face is trying to put it down.
In Hades, you’ll die a lot, but this compelling roguelike makes battling out of the underworld a pleasure.
The reason to keep coming back to Hades isn't just the thrills you'll get battling through hell, but the characters and stories you learn about along the way.
Whatever you like games for, graphics, gameplay, fun factor, Hades has this all in spades with equally exceptional quality wherever you choose to play it.
Weak endgame aside, Hades is an innovative and refreshing take on the roguelike genre, coupled with fast, frenetic, and fun gameplay.
