Sonic Origins Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Visually, Sonic Origins is quite sharp. It helps that the pixel art of each game has held up well, but it’s the new animated intros that truly stand out. These slick-looking cutscenes give a little extra context to the story, and look damn good while doing it.
In many ways, Sonic Origins is tailor-made for those of us who grew up with the SEGA Genesis in the early to mid-90s. It brings me back to when I was a kid, tak
Sonic Origins keeps the focus on the hedgehog's early core entries, polishing them up to a fine sheen and creating an addictive ecosystem around them that breathes new life into each title. There are a few missteps and grubby mechanics to forgive, but otherwise this is well worth diving into for old-school Sonic fans.
The classics are looking and feeling better than ever.
Sonic is back to tread in his past in a compilation that feels a bit too familiar for its own good.
The classic Sonic the Hedgehog games are no stranger to getting the compilation treatment. Most Nintendo fans of a certain age will fondly remember Sonic Mega
The games in Sonic Origins are among the best Sonic the Hedgehog titles in existence and this package is a great way to experience these games, especially for new fans who were introduced to the franchise by the Sonic the Hedgehog movies. The people who already own these games in some other form won't find anything particularly worthy of a double-dip, as even the convenience of owning them all on a modern system is undercut by all of the original versions of the games being available on the Sega Genesis Classic collection. Those who don't already own the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games can ge...
Messy as it is, Sonic Origins is still a collection of the best 2D entries the franchise has to offer. It may not be as dense in content in comparison to prior compilations like Sonic Mega Collection or Sonic Gems Collection, but it does just enough to not get in the way of what made these games system sellers in their heyday. While I was hoping for an easy touchdown, this ended up being a fumble recovery instead. Hefty price tag be damned, new players deserve to see why people like me keep g...
Sega's iconic Hedgehog has had many adventures and you can now replay 4 of them which are better than ever thanks to Sonic Origins.
With nothing new of any real substance, Sonic Origins is a reminder to fans why The Blue Blur has been a joke to the game industry for years.
The upgrades to Sonic Origins, such as restored content and infinite lives, are few, and most have been covered by previous releases of these games or even fanmade options that could’ve been enjoyed with those ROMs from the Steam release. The only thing that I think this collection truly accomplishes is making some great games available on modern consoles, and that is the absolute bare minimum I can ask. These games—with the possible exception of Sonic 1—are great, and this is a perfectly playable version of them. Sadly, we’ve seen the potential of what a Classic Sonic collection could…
Sonic Origins arrived just in time for the worlds most famous Hedgehog’s 31st anniversary, collecting four of his most legendary adventures. This set contains the original Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic CD, the seminal Sonic 2 and for the first time in over ten years, my personal favourite, Sonic 3 & Knuckles. SEGA sweeten the deal by offering a story mode with brand new animations linking the games, interactive menus and a decent helping of extra bits and pieces such as artwork and music from t...
