Rico Rodriguez is back in this next instalment of over the top action game Just Cause. Made famous for just how much fun destroying things and people were in

Taking more of a narrative approach while not really offering all that much narrative but definitely adding a little more marvel in the form of cataclysmic weather events as the major antagonist, Just Cause 4 is a shade more than just another Just Cause game. The major gameplay loop of orchestrating chaos remains true to the series but it is meted out just a bit more slowly while unlocking the goodies to perform your opus just a bit more freely. The real shine of the game comes from just whipping about the game world transitioning between grappling, wing suiting, parachuting, carjacking, plane...

If you've played a past Just Cause game, then you likely have experienced all of the best moments that Just Cause 4 is putting on display. A new region, some new gear, and a new checklist of tasks to accomplish isn't enough to make up for the grueling hours you'll have to put in doing the same tiresome missions over and over again just to reach its conclusion. Just Cause 4 had so much more potential than the final product we were given, and while it's still fun to goof around with the toys it gives you, that's about where the enjoyment begins and ends.

An 80s action movie in videogame form, some poor design choices don’t stop this being a great sandbox to play in.

Just Cause is undoubtedly a fun series with a devoted following. When you embrace the chaos there can be a lot of fun to be had, but it's when you look deeper at the nuts and bolts it isn't a bustling sandbox you find. It's more of a litter tray, full of waste. If you expect the finest the genre has to offer you're bound for disappointment, though if you're after more of bedlam Just Cause is famous for then this fourth iteration is what the doctor ordered.

Just Cause 4 more often than not feels like an average open world third person shooter than it does the explosion filled bonanza that it should be.

Rico Rodriguez has been on a few explosive adventures and his latest is also far from his greatest so let's find out why.

Just Cause 4 is not a better game than its predecessor. In many ways, it feels like the same game, just with a new continent to explore. For some, this may be all they ever wanted, but for the rest of us, it’s just not enough. The formula starts to show itself early and can feel monotonous only a few hours in. There will always be joy in the mass destruction of the Just Cause 4 games, but the games seem to rely more and more on “making your own fun” instead of pushing the player into exciting and unique scenarios via the mission structure and overall game design.

Besides that, the game also has some stuttering that kicks in if you’re able to play the game longer than half an hour, there are flickering textures, and some serious pop-in issues. The physics can also go wild which can be fun sometimes, but a lot of times it just screws you over and the vehicle handling is just a nightmare. On top of all that this seems like it really wasn’t handled by a team who plays PC games because the camera sensitive on its highest setting is as slow as molasses if you’ll allow me the cliché. It takes multiple full swings of my mouse to turn Rico around which of cours...

Armed with a grappling hook, wingsuit, an endless supply of parachutes and lots of weaponry and high explosives, Rico Rodriguez is the kind of action hero other action heroes aspire to become. Specialising in overthrowing tyrannical regimes, primarily by blowing stuff up and mowing down armies of henchmen, Just Cause 4 sends Rico to his biggest adventure yet in the South American island nation of Solis. There, he must confront the Black Hand, a shadowy private military company that is buildin...
