FatShark has done a fantastic job of taking their first game and improving on every single aspect. The recurring theme of offering players a variety of tools, characters and enemies to face leads to a crescendo of unique moments that are all entirely player driven. While the difficulty spikes can be frustrating, part of the fun in Vermintide 2 is being against the odds and prevailing.
If you haven't already, go get this game, and then tell your friends to get this game, and then go have some fun.
In Warhammer: Vermintide 2 it's time for players to return to the first-person co-op experience with intense melee action.
Vermintide II feels like a predictable step in a fantastic direction. It’s retained all of the bits of its predecessor that felt novel, and its gone the extra mile creating an ocean of foes that feel trickier and deadlier than ever before. While it suffers from some of the usual gripes that plague modern multiplayer adventures (in-game randomised loot as a compulsory progression mechanic and matchmaking troubles being the worst of them), it’s fundamentally enjoyable in its madcap approach to murder and mayhem. While you and your party members are unquestionably the arbiters of violence, yo…
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is everything that the first game so good while addressing the issues that frustrated fans of the first title.
At the end of the day, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is an excellent example of a properly handled sequel. It takes the recipe of the first game, which mixed visceral combat with a high requirement of teamwork and position awareness, and builds on top of it, both with its career system and new enemies. Wiping out hordes of rats and raiders is exhilarating and finishing the mission after barely surviving a boss encounter gives an amazing feeling. I’ve died to monstrosities and hordes of Skaven and Chaos Warriors many times. But I’ve also separated even more of them from their limbs and by the looks of it, I’m far from done.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 offers tense co-op gameplay that is so much more than just “Left 4 Dead with swords”
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a fantastic Left 4 Dead style game with nice RPG mechanics to keep things fresh and it works great on the Deck!
Vermintide 2’s co-op battling is nice step forward over the original. It’s gruelling at times, and that can sap the fun out when you’re failing missions and not making progress, with the weighty combat, the additional sub-classes and a long and deep progression of difficulty and loot, there’s plenty here for those that want to be in for the long haul.
An extremely satisfying coop combat game with a very frustrating balance and loot system.
Even with a few minor and infrequent hiccups, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 serves as an excellent platform for players keen on first-person cooperative action. The number of missions and environments, to say nothing of the different characters and classes, should provide enough content and customization to keep fans happy for the foreseeable future. As for cutting through the rising and falling ranks of the vicious Vermintide; well, it just feels good.
Vermintide 2 shamelessly wears its influences on its sleeve. A love letter to both Left 4 Dead and Diablo, the game casts you as a party of characters fending off an invading army of rat-men (called Skaven), orcs, and all sorts of nasty beasts that want to tear the world to shreds. While that pitch might sound generic, strong multiplayer systems and enjoyable combat make Vermintide 2 a blast as long as you’re playing with other people.
Warhammer Vermintide 2 is a beautifully dark game, and I’m in love with its hard-hitting, meaty melee weapons. It’s a gorgeous game with tons of fun play styles and customization options to uncover, even if most of the loot you earn for your efforts is a letdown. But thankfully you don’t need to pay much attention to it to simply enjoy the hack-n-slash, Left 4 Dead-inspired co-op fun of bashing hordes of rats and zombies to a pulp.
Vermintide 2 is an improvement over its predecessor with more beautifully designed sprawling levels, more varied enemy types, an addictive loot system, and a whole lot of character skills to try out. The sequel is at its best when it’s creating tense moments, even if it can quickly get a little bit overwhelming. I also apologize to all of those I left to die in matchmaking.
When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.
Matchmaking woes and annoyingly obtuse stats don't rob the fun out of Vermintide 2's gleefully gory combat.
Warhammer Vermintide is the latest project by Swedish developer Fatshark. You may know them mostly for War of the Roses and War of the Vikings, though they recently made Escape Dead Island and Bloodsports.TV as well.
Did you absolutely love playing Left 4 Dead online with your friends but wanted to try out a grim fantasy version instead? This is absolutely the game you want to play!
Blending Left 4 Dead with the Warhammer fantasy genre almost seems like a match made in heaven. The original Vermintide shamelessly borrowed from the Left 4 Dead formula while keeping the action consistently flowing and offering up a diverse cast that would banter back and forth as we chopped up the
I don’t think I remember a time before Warhammer. Starting life as a table top strategy game with an array of miniatures that you could purchase at any of the million Games Workshops found in literally every shopping centre. Making the move to digital the Warhammer franchise has tackled sports, turn based strategy, role-playing, card games and with the first instalment of Vermintide cooperative FPM, first person melee. While it had a solid fan following the first game didn’t blow up the i...
