Undeniably, the Witcher 3 is one of the best RPG’s and CD Projekt Red should be commended in providing a next-gen upgrade for the PlayStation 5 (reviewed) and
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still one of the best games ever made.
Republished on Tuesday, 30th August, 2016: To coincide with the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition, we're bringing this rather large review back from the Push Square archives. We've also included links to our reviews of the game's two expansions - which are included in the Game of the Year Edition - below. The original text follows after.
Putting such an impressive game on consoles shows how talented the people at CD Projekt RED are. The game is absolutely gorgeous and runs at a solid framerate on consoles, but the hardware is unfortunately not beefy enough to handle the game all the time. Loading times are quite long and the framerate can noticeably drop when traveling the environment. This just occasionally happened though and almost never during combat, even during hectic moments with larger enemies. I played a bit of it on PC and it obviously performs perfectly there assuming you have the right setup.
The Witcher 3 both meets and exceeds expectations, creating a game that will have a lasting impact on the entire industry.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt lives up to and surpasses the hype, delivering an excellent experience that won't be forgotten any time soon.
I’m fed up of games that are huge for the sake of it. Games that make a big song and dance of how many hundreds of hours of “entertainment” their sprawling worlds contain without realising that spending most of that time traipsing around a boring environment picking up pointless collectibles isn’t actually very entertaining. At all.
From its engrossing world to its compelling narrative and characters, The Witcher 3 is one of the best games in years. The Witcher 3 is a must-own for role-playing genre fans—and gamers in general. The experience shouldn't be missed.
Ever since The Witcher's 2007 debut, the series has been raising the bar for choice and consequence in role-playing games. Every entry in the series has taken the concept one step further, but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the most ambitious attempt yet, showing the ripple effect of tons of choices across a large world. CD Projekt RED doesn't disappoint, proving once again why it's a genre juggernaut. With abundant improvements, a bigger world, and more exciting choices on every level, The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've played in recent years, providing a stimulating challenge on and off the battlefield.
Even after all these years, it's worth going back to Geralt's old adventures. It's not just about a more modern treatment, but a timeless experience that will still captivate you.
Back when the Switch was first unveiled, before I knew about its underwhelming hardware specs, I vividly remember daydreaming about the possibility of having three specific games on-the-go: Doom, Dark Souls, and The Witcher 3. After the specs were revealed, I only had faith in Dark Souls being ported to the console, although Doom ended up being the first one to show up on Nintendo’s system. I never thought The Witcher 3 would ever be playable on this mobile-powered system, let alone in a d...
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is every bit the amazing game on Switch that it is everywhere else. While the Switch version does of course make compromises, the core vision and game design shine through, assuming you have the brightness turned up. While it is unfortunate that the route finding system is just as bad now as it was at launch, it is ultimately a tiny chip in an otherwise remarkable masterpiece. Whether Witcher 3 will be your entry point into the larger Witcher universe or you’re a longtime fan, I cannot recommend it enough. It is a game that to some extent transcends its genre and one…
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt ends Geralt's tale in spectacular fashion, finding ways to fill a giant world with thrilling combat, beautiful sights, and a bevy of compelling content. A strong conclusion to The Witcher trilogy, and a masterpiece that will keep you enthralled for weeks and months to come.
Those niggles aside, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an absolute triumph and the best open-world RPG around, maybe even the best altogether. The main story stays interesting, the side-stories are better than the main plots from most entire games, the characters and writing are wonderful, and the acting is massively improved from the last two games. Then we start talking about the open world, the graphics, the deep and involving quests, how Geralt’s beard grows over time, Charles Dance, all the ...
A big, beautiful, sprawling action RPG full of rich stories, and suffused with an oppressive darkness.
Despite its vast scope, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt tells a personal, intimate and touching story, filled with characters you’ll love and hate, and stuffed with monsters to slay. I completed the main storyline in around 50 hours and - yes I know this is a cliche - I’ve barely scratched the surface. The Witcher 3 is an astounding achievement.
The Witcher 3 Remastered | Review | The Witcher 3 has gotten a makeover. And what's more, it's free! Will that be enough for CD Project to make amends?
Now, the amount of detail put into every facet of this game cannot be understated, a notion that comes across perhaps most evidently within the environment. Games like those of the Assassin’s Creed franchise may feature open world maps, but comparatively, I have to admit that their scale feels quite unrealistically small when you look at the world of Wild Hunt. It is truly vast, often necessitating the need for a horse to traverse the landscape.
The Witcher 3 is vast, intriguing, and enthralling.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is a fantastic addition to the Switch RPG line-up. It's visual may have been scaled down but it's no less fantastic of a game.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is not just the long-awaited sequel to the video game franchise, but the first game entry that feels like a proper sequel to the novels and short fiction to which it owes its lineage. It's not just a great game, but a follow-up story that winds up its series better than the final book did.
While the story is solid in and of itself, it doesn’t mesh very well with the open questing system. This in no way disparages the quality of the story, only the sporadic way it is experienced when playing the game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is an engaging adventure into a realm fractured by war and cultural disparity that shines a light on the dark corners of the human psyche – and after hours of play, it leaves you sweating and aching for more. A must play for any modern gamer.
Despite a main quest that meanders a bit too frequently, The Witcher 3 excels at giving players an unbelievably large and beautiful open-world that is brimming with meaningful things to do. While the scope of the adventure may often leave players intimidated and overwhelmed, CD Projekt RED has crafted The Witcher 3 to be its most accessible game yet. If you stick with it until the end, you'll be blown away by its engrossing world, riveting characters, and deep combat system. It's a crowning achievement from the developer, and it's a definite contender for game of the year.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt doesn't deserve a perfect score - there are just too many technical problems - but that doesn't take away from what CD Projekt Red has accomplished. The Witcher 3 is messy, highly emotional, and incredibly addictive. Barring any huge surprises this fall, The Witcher 3 should be a shoo-in for the game of the year - it's not just one of 2015's best games, but for many players, it's the only one they'll need.
Almost without noticing, I’ve fallen in love with Geralt of Rivia. It’s not weird, or even sexual, so don’t giggle. If you’re playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, chances are you’re with me. After two fantastic earlier entries of the series, it feels like CD Projekt Red has nearly perfected the art of the role-playing this now classic fantasy icon.
CD Projekt Red’s game is a blockbuster in every sense of the word, and it’s hard to imagine a world where there’s a bigger or more impressive blockbuster at work in the background that hasn’t even been announced yet but will still release in 2015. With that in mind, while I’m sure that Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed title is going to be a big improvement on last year’s, and EA and Activision both have excellent shooters to release by Christmas, with Zelda on the Wii U being pushed to next year I’m quite comfortable with calling this now: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going to be th…
It's a sprawling, ambitious, beautiful representation of a dark fantasy world, and games like this don't come along often. By no means perfect, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt still one of the year's biggest and best releases.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is a masterfully written rollercoaster, and though there is a lot to do in the game, I never felt overwhelmed by the Side Quests and optional tasks. CD Projekt Red has done a great job of bringing this saga to a close. The best part about all of this, however, is the fact that CD Projekt RED stayed true to its word. Every choice you make will determine how the story unfolds, and what the world becomes at the end of it all.
A deeply satisfying Western-RPG that continues the fantastic tale of Geralt of Rivia.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered is an amazing remaster of an amazing game.
Marking the final installment in the action RPG trilogy, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt combines decision-based storytelling flair with a living open world larger than any other in modern RPG history.
“The Witcher 3 is enormously ambitious, and a monumental game that engulfed us from start to finish.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a huge step up from its predecessor, mostly because it manages to tell a more compelling and personal tale. At the same time, that intimate feel is juxtaposed against a gigantic, sprawling open-world adventure that may hit some snags along the way but still comes out on top.
Despite my minor complaints regarding the combat and the (massively inflated) controversy over the graphical downgrade, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a staggeringly accomplished game. The developers, CD Projeckt RED should be proud of what they’ve created. I just hope that others are paying attention.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is easily one of the most engrossing games I’ve had the chance to play. The story and characters are well worth the experience alone, and the world expertly draws on the desire to explore with its massive scale. You never know what will greet you or beat you just a few seconds down the path, and that’s what is exciting about this game. There are some issues that will need to be improved. The combat is better than the Witcher 2 but isn’t quite there either, but The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the first game in a while that has held my attention for so long that I don’t notice the time pass. CD Projekt Red haven’t just created a great game but a modern gaming masterpiece.
Reviewed on: Switch 2 Code supplied by the publisher. While at gamescom this year, I wasn’t expecting The Witcher to completely overwhelm me with so much amazing content and news. Now, here we are, a month later, reaping the fruits of that show. There's a specific kind of disbelief that hits wh

The Witcher 3 does have some minor flaws but ultimately is a game every RPG fan should play this year. This game is easily going to be a contender for Game Of The Year in 2015.
