The Sinking City 2 takes another successful dive into the survival horror genre, with challenging puzzles, an engaging and heartbreaking story, and wildly fun gunplay. I just wish it were longer and a bit more replayable.

The Sinking City 2 surprised me. My concerns about the format shift were allayed, though there's no denying the game lost something in the process. Ultimately, Frogwares has successfully embraced the survival horror genre.

The Sinking City 2 is a wonderful action horror game with a setting that's unmatched, and it makes it worth dealing with fast moving foes.
The Sinking City 2 feels inescapably like off-brand Resident Evil, but it's a praiseworthy imitation of its main inspirations wrapped in the Cthulhu mythos.

The Sinking City 2 | Review | The sunken city and the ancient curses return, but there's also a survival twist.
The Sinking City 2 delivers strong Lovecraftian atmosphere, impressive visuals, and satisfying survival horror mechanics, but its momentum falters in the latter half. Repetitive enemies, frequent encounters, and forced evasion undermine the otherwise engaging combat and exploration, leaving a promising sequel that falls short of its excellent opening.
The Sinking City 2 is a perfectly decent survival horror game with solid exploration, combat, and puzzle mechanics, but it doesn't excel in any of them. It doesn't take any risks, which makes it an enjoyable title and very suitable for fans of H.P. Lovecraft's stories, but it doesn't do anything special and leaves us missing the narrative and mechanical ambition of the first game in the series.
An improved sequel that doubles down on the basics.

Frogwares decided to shift the gameplay focus toward action with The Sinking City 2, abandoning the previous character and story. The result was mediocre at best.
At the same time, the generic UE5 visuals, sparse soundscape and occasionally awkward combat keep it from reaching the level of the games it clearly takes inspiration from. After never finishing the first The Sinking City, I certainly didn’t expect its sequel to work this well for me. It’s an uneven but enjoyable survival horror game that takes Frogwares’ familiar investigative ideas in a very different direction.
