The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales Review – Give It Time
We're reviewing The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, Square Enix's latest entry in the HD-2D series. Now, however, it's time for a bit of a revolution.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is an exploration of Square Enix, taking the opportunity to play with their now well-established 2DHD formula
If The Adventures of Elliot become as numerous as the legends of Zelda, you'll find me a willing participant, despite the shortcomings of this maiden voyage. The inspirations are clear, but so too is the understanding of what makes for enjoyable minute-to-minute gameplay. The longer you play, the more the cracks begin to show, but the story manages to push you forward and the hidden plots beneath it make going out of your way an oft fulfilling detour. The red mage-looking Elliot has made a fan out of me, and if Link ever wants to take a break from stopping Ganon, Square Enix has a capable back…
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales blends classic Zelda and JRPGs into a satisfying 2D HD action RPG packed with exploration and customization.
What if the best Zelda of recent years didn't bear the Nintendo brand, but that of Square Enix? The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, the new production from Team Asano, certainly has that flavor, with a little touch of HD-2D added.
Typically, a weak narrative would matter to me. Even with my action games (see: NieR), I like to play something that has something to say (and that’s why I don’t quite hold Zelda in the same esteem as some others). However, with Elliot, the gorgeous production values and entertainingly breezy action roped me in anyway. This is a charming, if transient little game, and has the added benefit of demonstrating that HD-2D is a versatile engine that developers have only really started to play with.
To save Princess Heuria and secure a future for humanity, Elliot must travel through four distinct periods in the history of Philabieldia.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales | Review | The classic role-playing game returns with a new look and some old issues.
If you don't care too much about the plot and its plausibility, then The Millennium Adventurer Elliot is actually a pretty good Zelda-like game.

The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales transforms HD-2D into a fast, rewarding action-adventure game. It trades the calmer pace of traditional HD-2D RPGs for a more energetic experience without sacrificing atmosphere or charm.

Lowell Bell travels through the ages for the Gamer Guides review of The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales
Despite the successes of The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, I can’t help but feel it’s a game that doesn’t make full use of its time-travel potential, both in its overworld and in its story.
With engaging, high-octane combat, enticing visuals, and well-designed boss fights, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales delivers a pretty enjoyable overall experience. Unfortunately, its underwhelming dialogue, unremarkable cast of characters, and slightly lacking environments prevent it from reaching the heights of classic Square Enix titles.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a gorgeous, addictive action RPG that proves pixel art still has plenty of fight left in it.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is an HD-2D RPG full of clever ideas that somehow failed to properly hook me.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales is a solid, but sometimes disappointing, transition into action-RPGs for Square Enix's HD-2D series.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales could've been the next big action RPG, instead, it feels like a lesser version of a game you've played before.
The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales has a lot of great ideas and a wonderful story, but the basic combat and minor issues here and there hold it back from greatness.
One day while playing through The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales for review, I was chatting with my friend about why I felt that retro throwback
Square Enix’s latest game borrows from Secret Of Mana, The Legend Of Zelda, and Chrono Trigger to make a brand new HD-2D action role-player.
At the same time, the adventure often plays things very safely. The story follows familiar fantasy tropes, many quests fall into predictable fetch-quest patterns, and the enemy variety becomes repetitive over time. Nevertheless, strong exploration, satisfying progression systems, memorable boss battles, and an undeniably charming world ensure that Elliot’s journey remains consistently entertaining. It may not reach the same heights as Team Asano’s most celebrated RPGs, but it is still a worthwhile adventure that classic action-RPG fans should find easy to enjoy.
