Rockstar North has gone above and beyond to transplant Grand Theft Auto V from the Xbox 360 to the Xbox One, and their efforts pay off in a big way. Thanks to a long list of additions and improvements, what was already a genre-defining masterpiece has been lifted to all new heights, proving that such an epic vision feels more at parity with the current wave of hardware than it did with the last. It doesn't matter if it's your first time visiting Los Santos or if you're thinking of booking a return flight, we give GTA V our highest recommendation. This is simply a marvelous game.
The fifth game in the Grand Theft Auto series has finally received a refreshed version on eighth generation consoles. How did Rockstar cope with converting its big hit?
Relax – it was worth the wait, and then some. The sprawling, ingenious, hilarious Grand Theft Auto 5 is a contender for the best game of the current generation of consoles, and might just be the best game of all time.
Grand Theft Auto is nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon. Whether you’re a gamer or not you’ve likely heard of it. It is a game that has managed to permeate nearly every household in North America it seems and everyone is talking about it. It’s so huge in fact that in its first week of release it generated over one billion dollars in sales. If that’s not a testament to the quality that Rockstar has brought to the table with GTA V then I don’t know what is. Hands down Grand Theft Auto V is an absolutely fantastic and bitingly satirical peek into our North American culture at its best and worst (mostly worst). Love it or hate it this franchise will forever be embedded in our history as a piece of our ‘artistic culture’ for future generations to look back on and say “Man, they were really messed up back then!”
No matter if you're new to Grand Theft Auto V or a returning player, there's more than enough in this next-generation port to keep you satisfied. The first-person perspective manages to make a year-old game feel new again, and the changes made to the graphics, gameplay and online mode are substantial. One of 2013's best games is made even better on the PlayStation 4.
On February 28, 1998, Grand Theft Auto hit the North American market, giving gamers a bird’s-eye view of a gangster’s world overrun with violence, drugs, and an alarming number of civilians crushed by runaway cars. Although the characters looked like ants from the game’s top-down perspective, players became immersed in the open-world chaos, praising its unique gameplay and freedom of choice. The diminutive violence from that first Grand Theft Auto title created a rock-solid foundation for a series that was about to revolutionize gaming – all through the switch of a camera.

Grand Theft Auto V is a compelling title filled with activity and undoubtedly a contender for Game of the Year. It's an astounding game that once again pushes the standard of what is expected from open-world titles.
A stunning addition to Rockstar’s library. For all the controversy surrounding its violence, sexuality, and vindictive portrayal of American culture, it’s ironic that the [...]
Given Rockstar’s reputation for creating controversial content with satirical tones and sharp social commentary, it should come as no surprise that GTA V carries all the classic hallmarks of this developer, and does it times better than before. Its graphic content might turn you away, but if you take the time to dig in a little deeper, you will find that GTA V is a worthy descendant of the previous games as it carries all the classic hallmarks – it is sharp, witty, intelligent, and just the right shade of nasty -, and is a true inspiration for future open-world action adventure games.
Set in the sprawling city of Los Santos and the surrounding area, Grand Theft Auto V delivers a world of unprecedented scale and detail bursting with life, from mountaintops to the depths of the ocean.
Michael, Franklin, and Trevor. These three personalities are at the very core of Grand Theft Auto V – one of the most anticipated games of this console generation. Everything that happens within the title revolves around the trio, from the gripping get-rich-quick heists that punctuate the story to the side activities that help to define each character's life. Rockstar Games' latest is an impressively robust title that can keep you hooked for hours on end, and most importantly, it confidently improves upon everything that Grand Theft Auto IV did well.
It's somewhat unfair to compare the next-gen console versions to a PC as my video card costs more than both consoles combined. That said, what Rockstar has pulled off here is as close to a PC running at max settings, but with a slightly lower draw distance and less feature-rich anti-aliasing. On the other hand, if you are coming from the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One, the difference is staggering. Most of the time a next-gen native version of a game is just a higher-resolution minimal-effort wallet hug, but here it's clear that the developers are looking to deliver the best version of their most successful game ever, ahead of finally getting another proper installment in the series.
Most anticipated game of the year? Most anticipated game of this generation? We can argue over that. But what we all want to know is - just how good is Rockstar's long-awaited blockbuster?
A shame really as it is not that far from being the perfect pocket crimewave!
Arguably the biggest addition in this version is the addition of a first-person mode, which marks the first time any such mode has been implemented in a Grand Theft Auto title. Rather than being a tacked-on feature, Rockstar’s first-person support actually outdoes a lot of games, which is surprising considering it originally shipped without any such features. First-person works surprisingly well with this game, though it may be a matter of preference wether you’ll actually want to play through the game in this state. The game offers a lot of customisable options to tweak your experience, ranging from field of view, controls to changing to third-person view/controls when performing certain actions. The player for instance will have the ability to automatically switch to third-person when in cover or when entering a vehicle, which makes the mode very accessible for players who might prefer a more traditional experience for certain sections of the game. General traversal and gunplay seem to work just fine, though driving may be a jarring experience for some, which is partially thanks to its slightly narrow field of view whilst in vehicles.
Overall Grand Theft Auto V showcases the masterpiece of an open world action adventure title that Watch_Dogs and other open world games have failed to deliver. The mind-blowing graphics, alluring gameplay experience, and the perfect online mode makes Grand Theft Auto V a deserving game to be awarded with Game of the Year title of 2015!
Grand Theft Auto V is the perfect combination of story-telling and excellent game mechanics but most importantly; it's one hell of a time. If you're waiting for payday, or have yet to pick it up, get it. You'll never spend a better $60 in your life.
GTA V doesn’t break new ground. It’s not going to change the world. It is, after all, the fifth numbered title in a well loved series and for the most part it is simply delivering more of what the developers must know the fans want to see. To expect otherwise is idiocy. But it is engaging, compelling, interesting, clever, funny and packed with things to do and see. It’s a personal story, or several personal stories, set in a magnificent world that ebbs and flows with thousands of people who all seem to be living their own personal stories. It’s a genuine landmark event in the history of videogames and it’s one that you definitely shouldn’t miss.
Cast your mind back all the way to 1997. Grand Theft Auto was some weird little game that whipped up a storm of controversy because you could run people over and gun them down. It looked pretty crude, with its top-down 2D graphics, and almost didn't see the light of day. If you'd have told us at the time that it would grow into the biggest, most hyped, all-conquering franchise that it is today, we'd have suggested a lie down and some sort of medication. But GTA is effing huge. The hugest, in ...
