If you played the first Dragon Quest Heroes, know that this sequel improves in just about every single facet. I'm impressed that Koei Tecmo didn't just phone this one in, but made some great changes that really enhance the overall experience.
Developer Omega Force is truly a force to be wrecked with. The Japanese developer has not only continued a franchise, Dynasty Warriors, for 20 years, but they have found ways to bring their hack-n-slash formula to other notable series. Dragon Quest Heroes II fits in perfectly with the other entries in the Dragon Quest series, only with a splash of that musou battle system. Being a huge fan of the Dragon Quest mainline series, I was blown away with the how well this collaboration was executed and could easily call this one of my favorite games of 2017.
Set in a new world with new heroes and story, Dragon Quest Heroes II is an action-RPG that sends players on a grand adventure to restore order to a once-peaceful world, with thrilling battles of epic proportions along the way.
Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is another Musou game in a sea of Musou games. Does Dragon Quest Heroes 2 do enough to set itself apart from the competition, or should you just wait for another Dynasty Warriors game? Check out our review and find out what we thought.
Moving away from the more strict mission based structure of the first game, players now get to travel across the lands of the seven kingdoms in-between the smoother than ever large scale battles. As with any musou game, the combat will get repetitive at times, but there is no question that Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is a bigger and better followup to the original that continues to be a love letter to the Dragon Quest fandom.

When Dragon Quest Heroes launched it was a fresh take on the Musou/Warriors formula, but ultimately we felt a bit underwhelmed. The Musou gameplay can be loads of fun, but when shoehorned into an RPG format felt tired and boring, not as strategic as an actual RPG, not as much chaotic fun to be had as in actual Musou games. Omega Force and Square Enix could’ve easily just whacked out a second game with few, if any, refinements and for the most part, people would’ve been content. But instead, Dragon Quest Heroes II is actually a big improvement on the first and will give disillusioned players a ...
Massive enhancements to gameplay make this a wonderful action RPG to play, but its disappointing story holds it back from greatness.
Dragon Quest Heroes II‘s sound is utterly fantastic, thanks to its memorable music and impressively energetic voice acting. The soundtrack is the usual Dragon Quest fare, made up of rousing battle songs full of energy and vigor, and soothing town tunes that could put the most uptight adventurer at ease. The voice acting is a huge success thanks to how enthusiastic the voice actors are. The silly writing and humor greatly benefits from how invested the voice actors and actresses seem to be, which goes a long way in establishing a fun tone.
With Dragon Quest Heroes II, you’re presented with a visually stunning hack n’ slash JRPG developed by the same team behind Dynasty Warriors. With a strong pedigree and incredible sales figures in Japan (this was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch over there), Dragon Quest Heroes II is my…
What happens when you cross one of Japan’s most successful gaming series with a gaming developer hailed for its excellence in Hack n Slash RPG’s? Well, you get yourself a gaming gem like Dragon Quests Heroes II, that’s what happens. Returning for a second round, after its previous installment was released in 2015, Dragon Quest Heroes II was bound to be just as fun and pleasurable a game as its predecessor – and I wasn’t disappointed.
