Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
It's a real shame that The Oath in Felghana just isn't the kind of game Falcom makes anymore, but the fact it's gotten a modern re-release at least gives me hope that Memoire releases of Ys I & II, The Ark of Napishtim, and SEVEN are right around the corner. Ys doesn't have the same magic it used to anymore, but as long as the older games remain accessible on modern consoles, we'll always be able to go back to the classics. Whether you're a JRPG fantatic looking for something new to play, an ...
Ys is a series that has led innovation in the action RPG genre. Getting to dive into games from the series is always a treat. Hearing that XSeed games were again at the publishing table for a remaster of one of the most beloved games in the series with Ys…
A classic Action RPG that looks and sounds better than ever, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana may not be for everyone, but those looking for something simpler will undoubtedly love this one.
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a throwback in the best way possible, highlighting the series' strengths and offering a fun time.
Originally released as Ys III: Wanderers from Ys in 1990, this remaster of that game's 2005 remake will be a comfortable fit for anyone who started with the more modern 3D adventures.Read More
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana may show its age with its mechanics, but still holds up surprisingly well. It lacks many of the standard features of modern Ys games, such as multiple playable characters, minigame battles and homebase building, but still provides the same story-driven adventure with fast-paced action combat. It's a relatively short adventure that can be completed in around ten or twelve hours, but none of that time is wasted with unnecessary filler. Between the charming visuals, enjoyable gameplay and amazingly-reworked soundtrack, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana is a great a...
One of Falcom's best Ys games comes to modern consoles, but the end result should've been better.
The venerable Ys series has been around for a long time. The first game was released in 1987 for the PC-8800 system in Japan. In the decades since then, many
Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana might not light the world on fire in a modern landscape, but still stands as a formiddable remaster of a classic action-RPG that would have otherwise been lost to the sands of time. This entry cuts a lot of the complexities that have become synonymous with the genre and offers an easily understood romp that is a great palette cleanser after a glut of dense RPGs in the last year. While I found this to be a bit too simple in the long run, others may find this to be a compelling return to one of Ys' lesser recognised shores.
A remaster of a reimagining, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana offers a classic Ys experience with enhanced visuals and more. As much as it is improved, however, it feels very basic by today's standards, and some may find issue with its prickly difficulty spikes.
Dig in to your favourite Ys game, lovingly cooked just like you remember it.
