Professional reviews from gaming critics
Crash is back again, and this time, he's revved up to the max in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, an authentic Crash Team Racing experience that's been remastered in stunning HD and so much more.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled is a fun and complex kart racer. Boasting mechanics that are now genre standards, CTR's return shows just how relevant it still is. With additional features to fit into modern times like difficulty settings and graphics, this is a must-have for fans of the original, and for anyone who enjoys kart racing with friends.
This is the definitive Crash Team Racing experience. Nitro-Fueled is everything I hoped it would be, a faithful recreation of the classic game with added flair and personality. A lack of custom race settings and some superficial gripes are not enough to dissuade me that this is among the best kart racers available. Crash is absolutely back, baby!
Once I changed the controls to something more comfortable, I had a blast playing through the well-crafted adventure mode and all the tracks and challenges that reside in it, even if the CPU players had the rubber band effect.
Future Grand Prix events are set to add characters from the Spyro the Dragon franchise, which is sure to be exciting for fans of PS1-era platformers. It's safe to say that anyone who has nostalgia for Spyro or Crash will likely have a great time with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, and while the difficulty will be polarizing, the game is stuffed with content, and since it's available at a budget price, picking it up is a no-brainer.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is another exemplary update for a classic game that desperately needed refreshing after remaining somewhat dormant for several console generations. True, there were other iterations, but this one has always remained the best out of the group. Activision and Beenox did well to make the tweaks they did and otherwise pack this new version of a classic chock-full of reasons to return to the game so many years later. If you're looking for a new (technically old) kart racer to dive into and give your all, this is definitely a great one to add to the pile, especially i...
When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled not only succeeds as a loving and faithful adaptation of the classic PS1 release, but it has been turbo-boosted by a glut of welcome new content including characters, tracks, and modes. Though it occasionally shows its age in course design, and erratically pumps the brakes with a surprising difficulty spike, Nitro-Fueled remains a fast and fun kart racer, sure to please old fans and worthy of a test drive from new ones.
Crash Team Racing has long been remembered fondly by players and Beenox's Nitro-Fueled remaster proves, for the most part, we haven't been blinded by nostalgia.
I've been a fan of Crash Bandicoot since the beginning, so I had the chance to experience all of the excitement of CTR when it was first released back in 1999.
Pretty much every platforming star worth their salt ends behind the wheel eventually, but not every kart racer is created equal. Mario’s obviously had his memorable outings, but Crash Bandicoot is no racing slouch either. In fact, 1998’s Crash Team Racing has become a bit of a cult favorite over the past two decades, with devotees lauding it for being faster, harder, and more skill-based than your average kart racer.
While Nitro Fueled is a decently crafted remake of the classic original, It just didn’t offer that same sense of enjoyment that I so fondly remember. While I still enjoyed my time with this gorgeous remake, it just didn’t capitalize on the nostalgia i had for the original.
