Peglin is a roguelike pachinko title developed by Red Nexus Games Inc.
Having released on more consoles, Peglin has further opportunity to become everyone's new favourite addiction. Red Nexus Games has created a marriage of roguelike meets pachinko magic, and it's a delightful ride.
After being available on PC for some time, Peglin has finally made its way to consoles, and it's been well worth the wait. This roguelike twist on the Peggle works incredible well, and it's the sort of thing you'll find yourself returning to again and again. We just wish there was an endless mode to conquer: a game is over all too quickly as it stands.
Peglin definitely is not for everyone. Its roguelike structure combined with a surprising amount of luck that is required to see the end of the game took quite a long time to grow on me. The lack of properly explained mechanics and way in which you can’t influence the board made me feel quite frustrated as a player. But there is a very good game at its core, which kept me coming back again and again. When you get a proper combination of attacks and elemental damage going it is so much fun to take bosses down in just a few shots. The barrier of entry is a tad high for my taste, but once the o…
There's nothing crazy about Peglin. The game is straightforward but still offers plenty of twists the further into your game session you manage to get. This is one of those no two rounds are the same games, a staple in roguelight titles I have come to enjoy. The better you become at playing Peglin the longer those sessions tend to become. I don't daydream about Peglin, which is to say the worst thing I can think about Peglin; it's there, it's fun, but I don't feel much of a sense of accomplishment once I move onto something else.

Visually, the pixel art style works well enough, and it helps on the Switch not being that complex a title so load times are minimal. Because your foes only respond after your attacks, there’s always time to stop and plan out shots around how each orb’s power works – once you wrap your head around that – and so it’s a pretty easy drop-in-drop out kind of game. Not everything needs to be a 100+ hour epic, you know?
Peglin is a roguelike pachinko game. If you’re not familiar, pachinko games are where you shoot a ball from the top of the screen to hit and bounce between as many pegs as possible for points. It’s a simple concept, and one that gave rise to the hugely popular Peggle games, but where that series has faded into our memories, Peglin is looking to revisit and spice things up with more items, ball types, bonuses and monster battles.
