Railway Empire Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Overall, I very much enjoyed Railway Empire, as can be told by my shoulders being sore from being hunched over my Switch while my wife watched the 10th hour of Millionaire Matchmaker. This definitely scratched an itch for me and will be my go to Railroad Tycoon-ish game from now on. I love that it is now on the Switch since I can now bring it on long flights. I would 100% recommend this to all trains fans and anyone who likes this breed of intense economic sim. A few hiccups minorly hinder it at times, but once you learn your way around the tracks, Railway Empire is a very sound game.
But, most importantly of all, you really can ride the trains, and the game is absolutely gorgeous. About the only thing that would have made the experience even better is if you could jump off the train and explore the stations and cities that wouldn’t be developing were it not for you. That aside, the game plays beautifully, is perfectly comfortable with a controller, is expansive, and is both enjoyable and illuminating. Everything that a good simulation game should be, really.
When you see a railroad simulation game on console, it's easy to assume that it'll be tricky to play. However, Railway Empire manages to be a wholly enjoyable and in-depth sim that's sure to delight genre fans and newcomers alike.
Easy to get into with a decent amount of challenge to the end. The most accessible railway sim I've played yet.
Railway Empire for Nintendo Switch has little interest in whether you want to play it. There's a good sim/management game here, I just get the feeling it was developed by train aficionados who don't want you in their club unless you're perfectly in sync with their rules.Read More
A passionate and capable title with some pretty egregious flaws.
Railway Empire is a game that has a lot of promise, plenty of substance, and can be enjoyable to those who have 20ft train sets in their basements. However, most will find this game poorly designed, easily finished, and a tedious use of their time. Suddenly doing laundry sounds like a good idea.
