Telling a gut-punch of a story with novel gameplay mechanics is no small feat, and Before Your Eyes marvelously delivers on both fronts.

Before Your Eyes is that example that you can point to and say "this is what games can be"... it moves you beyond the instant moment and sits with you for

Whereas scores of other titles look towards filling potential holes with content, Before Your Eyes has a more special goal in mind: making you appreciate each and every second.Reviewer's Note: While I'll try to be as vague as possible, I'll put a LIGHT SPOILER warning up here to [...]

I was moved beyond words by this little game. Before Your Eyes manages to be interesting and quirky, whilst also finding new ways to immerse you in a beautiful story. It is deeply sad at times, and at others fills you with an immense joy and appreciation for people and their complex lives. There is so much about this game that is better experienced for the first time with no forewarning, but if you like heartfelt stories and powerful narratives, this one's for you.

Blinking for the first time in Before Your Eyes is a genuinely magical moment. I don’t mean hitting a button to close your virtual eyes. Through the power of a webcam, Before Your Eyes tracks when you blink which allows you to progress through a wonderful narrative adventure title from GoodbyeWorld Games. It may seem like a novel gimmick on the surface, but the mechanic is used so inventively that it meaningfully enhances the already powerful storytelling that fans of narrative adventure titles would be mistaken to write it off as a shallow trick.

I can't remember the last time a game was so close to making me cry. Perhaps it was What Remains of Edith Finch? Yes, these two games have a lot in common, including creative gameplay. To fully experience Before Your Eyes you should have a webcam…

There will be no dry PSVR2 headsets among those who choose to try Before Your Eyes. This truly unique 90 minute narrative experience asks you to set aside your DualSense, and relies on the headset’s eye tracking as its primary form of engagement. Rather than using the controller, you’ll instead blink to interact with objects and progress through scenes, with your head enabling you to look around. You can turn off the eye tracking for a more traditional experience if you like, although we’d argue this strips the release of its USP.

Before Your Eyes is a smart and moving first-person looker where your eyes are in control.

Before Your Eyes is a unique and emotional narrative about a soul on its way to the afterlife and a deep dive into what is important in life. Sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, Before Your Eyes manages to make you care for Benjamin in the short time that you have with him. Controlled using only your eyes, Before Your Eyes is a testament to what the PSVR2 can do, helping craft a story which has no need for controllers to experience. Simply sit back, watch, and blink when you’re ready to progress.

Before Your Eyes is a narrative-driven VR game that uses eye-tracking technology to immerse players in the life story of Benny, offering a short yet emotional experience, but with graphics that may not satisfy everyone and a narrative that could be more developed.

What sounds like a silly gimmick works extremely well at immersing you into the life of another, although the technical problems can be severe.

I wasn’t sure just what to expect when I started the story, but I was happy to have gone through it by the end.
