Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Darkside Detective is an adventure game that will have you laughing as you solve the mysteries behind the paranormal events plaguing Twin Lakes. With great visuals, music and movie references this is a must play!
The Darkside Detective is great for those, who like me, enjoy the intellectual silliness of creations like Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace. It knows it’s daft every step of the way, it’s meant to be, but there’s a cleverness behind it all that’s charming and refreshing. And like Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace, I feel it’s destined to become a cult classic. Make sure you play it now, rather than in a few years time when it features on lists of underappreciated indie gems, yeah?
By cutting back on the pop culture references and focusing more on unique characters and situations, The Darkside Detective: A Fumble in the Dark is a strong follow-up to Spooky Doorway’s point-and-click adventure. The game is certainly lengthier and grander in scope, and while it occasionally feels a tad bloated with unnecessary tasks, it’s largely an immensely fun ride with the same excellent visuals from the first game. I’d say that Darkside Detective isn’t the best adventure game on the system but it holds up well in the middle of the pack. The greater the breadth of your pop culture appreciation the more likely I’d say the jokes and references are to connect for you. In general, the game is riding on that understanding. It’s a worthwhile romp for genre fans who’d like a chance to enjoy five chapters with a reasonable length, have a few laughs, and not b…
The mysterious world behind the life of a detective, especially one focused in the paranormal events, is always a intriguing aspect for a story. While there are many ways to go about discovering the secrets behind strange events going on around town, The Darkside Detective is a point-
You can play through the first case – which is the shortest and least inventive but gives a good idea of the tone – in the demo. Think of it as a pilot for a micro interactive series. If you enjoy it, you'll most likely love the rest. It may be slight, but it's delightful.
