Professional reviews from gaming critics
The world's sexiest video game protagonist returns in Bayonetta 2 as this overtly attractive and seductive witch once again pushes the boundaries of the
When Michael Foucault wrote about his philosophical concept of the “limit”, he was talking about how we need art that push boundares – of good taste, of sexuality, of art itself – in order to define what the limit is and why we need to have it. Bayonetta 2 will challenge some people. It will make them uncomfortable. It’s transgressive in numerous ways, and with that comes the potential to offend. But in causing offence, Bayonetta 2 encourages conversation, and that’s the very definition of a good work of art.
An absolute masterpiece from top to bottom, Bayonetta 2 is another gem that has been added to the Wii U’s sterling library of exclusive games.
Bayonetta 2 sets the new standard for Character-Action games to come; it is a true modern classic, and a testament to videogaming as a whole.
“Bayonetta 2 is a game whose gargantuan barrage of sex, violence, and surrealism sets the mind on fire in the best possible way.”
Bayonetta 2 is a system seller. It's a Nintendo-published game that is rarely seen, and a game that will legitimately make non-Wii U owners jealous.
Despite being a three-plus-year-old port, Bayonetta 2 shines brightest on Nintendo Switch. It runs without a hitch at 60fps, looks incredible in both TV and tabletop modes and offers an addictive free-flowing combat formula that sprinkles in platforming, light exploration and a ridiculous story to create something that you simply need to experience. If you’ve never played it for before, you’re in for a treat. If you’ve already played it, it’s even more bewitching as a handheld gem. As long as you know what you’re getting into, Bayonetta 2 is a must-play.Conceptually, 2010’s Bayonetta is a very difficult character to describe. She’s a centuries old witch with the demeanor [...]
It may be a divisive experience, but for fans of Bayonetta's mystique and over-the-top style, Bayonetta 2 is an essential experience. It has its share of flaws that are consistent with the genre's history, but in the end, these complaints aren't enough to upend the forward momentum that Platinum Games has injected into the game.
Adding a sweet cherry on an amazing cake, Platinum have put Nintendo costumes into the port, letting you play as Princess Peach, Daisy, Link or Samus. Not only are these cosmetic changes, but they actually have gameplay effects. You can actually use Samus’s arm cannon, Link can block attacks with her shield and halos are rupees instead, and the two princesses can summon monsters instead of wicked weaves. I can’t think of any developer that would go to this much effort, and it’s just a genuine delight to see how much work has gone behind the port, and that absolutely zero percent of it is locke...
The original Bayonetta was a fast-paced action game built around outrageous angelic character designs, fluid combat, and its sexuality driven protagonist, the titular character herself, Bayonetta. While it followed in the footsteps of what made the Devil May Cry series so popular, the game found its
