Resident Evil 0 is a worthy entry in the Resident Evil franchise even though it lacks the scares and originality. It's often overshadowed by the first game, but not giving it a spin would be a grave mistake. RE 0 makes some notable changes to the core gameplay like controlling and swapping between the two main leads at any time, as well as a complete revamp of managing items. The systems can feel archaic and occasionally cumbersome, but various new challenges and puzzles make it worth the effort. RE 0 is a stunning looking game and the new HD visuals ensure that it looks better than ever. Whet...
Capcom proves once again that it's quite good at this remastering lark. Resident Evil Zero HD is a brilliant update of another classic GameCube Resident Evil game for a modern audience that demands to be revisited once more or discovered for the first time. It's scary good.
Resident Evil has a storied history and the series has evolved over the years to feature a wide range of gameplay styles. Revisiting the core survival horror gameplay with an added modern control scheme proves to be a wonderful pairing. Featuring two characters for a majority of the adventure adds some interesting puzzle design, but also takes away from the feeling of isolation and dread. Fortunately the frightening and off-putting atmosphere helps to counteract that. While it isn’t the best of the classics, Resident Evil Zero still manages to deliver an authentic survival horror experience.
Resident Evil 3 brings a refreshing feel to the classic by implementing immersive music, remarkable graphics, and a fantastic story along with an updated combat system that does a great job of leaving you wanting some more Resident Evil action.
It should be noted that this isn’t some kind of weird alternate reality campaign- they literally just swap in Wesker for Billy and give the character powers. You’ll still hear Billy’s voice in the various cutscenes throughout the game, with Wesker’s voice only being heard when you decide to have both characters split up or stay together. Replaying the game and seeing Wesker but hearing Billy is… well, it’s weird.
If you’re looking for a Resident Evil title, then go give Resident Evil Revelations 1 or 2 a go. Hell, even Resident Evil 5 & 6 are closer to a Resident Evil game than this game is. However, if you’re wanting a scary VR experience, then this is the perfect game for you. Resident Evil 7 will make sure you’re shitting your pants and drive you paranoid as hell thanks to the Baker Family. While this game does a good job at atmosphere, it also shows that we are still very far away from the uncanny valley with character models. Also, make sure you are playing with VR no matter what version you have...
