Tales of Berseria is a strong return to form from Bandai Namco and this return to form has produced one of the best Tales games out there in terms of story and overall quality.

If you thought you were done hanging out with your invisible Malakhim chums then you'll be pleasantly surprised with the latest in this colourful JRPG series. Velvet isn't your average cheerful youth though, so expect some deep subject matter ahead.
All in all, I wasn’t expecting Tales of Berseria to be as good of a game as it was. Sure there were some minor gripes with the voice acting and dialogue, as well as the extended overworld travel which slows down enjoyment, but most games have flaws in one way or another. With fun flowing combat and a pretty badass anti-hero lead in Violet, Tales of Berseria is a game you shouldn’t let slip by – unless of course you are already swamped with other titles in the meantime.

Tales of Berseria may still have a few issues that continue to plague the series but its refined combat mechanics and darker tone make it a worthwhile departure for fans to check out.
Tales of Berseria is proof that with a more thoughtful approach to design, the series still has what it takes to stand tall among its RPG contemporaries.
Tales of Berseria's heavy anime and manga influence and its incredibly lengthy campaign will likely be a difficult barrier of entry for many gamers. That said, RPG fans won't want to pass this one up. Its style may be over the top, but there is actually a pretty compelling story here and an unforgettable cast of characters with unique abilities to get to know. All of that on top of a challenging combat system make this the best installment in the Tales franchise in recent memory.
All in all then, Tales of Berseria is a game carried by its thrilling combat and unusual cast of characters, and they do so with ease. It doesn’t try to push the bar in any particular way; it’s just content with being a good old-fashioned JRPG, and I respect it for that. Whilst the Final Fantasy series constantly shifts in an attempt to expand its audience, alienating many long-term fans in the process, Tales of Berseria is a love letter to Tales fans, reassuring them that the series doesn’t need to change to remain relevant.
Tales of Berseria is the 16th game in the main series of Tales games. It should be noted that Berseria was my introduction to the Tales series, so I cannot make any fair comparisons to other games in the Tales series. For anyone burnt by Tales Of Zesteria, this game is a step in the right direction. Anyone looking for a long, combat-rich JRPG with interesting characters should pick it up. It isn't going to change your opinion of the genre as a whole, but it does enough right to set it apart from other games like it.
