Ys X: Proud Nordics Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Ys X: Proud Nordics feels like a greedy, poorly timed release. But it’s a vastly improved version of an already excellent game. Ys X: Nordics was one of the lesser Ys games, but the changes in Proud Nordics have now put it in the upper echelon of Ys games. There’s tons of new content, and the entire game has been carefully tweaked and rebalanced. If Ys X: Proud Nordics is a cash grab, it isn’t a lazy one. Ys X: Proud Nordics is one of the best action JRPGs ever, and a must-play for Ys fans.
Ys X: Proud Nordics is the definitive way to play Adol’s seafaring adventure with a great story alongside a strong, memorable cast and even better re-balanced combat. Enhancements, improvements, and new game modes make the latest release feel like a total package that the original should have been, but it’s a hard game to recommend to those who picked up the original, as a couple of extra hours of content is hard to justify.
Ys X: Nordics is a solid ARPG with a simple yet engaging story. Thanks to the chemistry between its protagonists, its revamped combat system, an outstanding soundtrack, new quests, and quality-of-life improvements, this is the definitive version of Ys X. All of this compensates for the shortcomings in environment design and the simplicity of sea navigation. This is a title that prioritizes fluid gameplay and character development over, rather than a complex story or visual innovation. Fortunately, it doesn't lose the essence and DNA that has made it so...
Ys X: Proud Nordics may not be the best the series has to offer, but the Switch 2 version is fantastic and the new content is great.
Another great entry into the long-running series, Ys X: Proud Nordics is highly recommended, provided you haven’t played the original. For those who have, there just isn’t enough new content to justify paying full price.
Ys X: Proud Nordics sails onto Switch 2 with impressive 120 FPS performance and sharp DLSS visuals, yet struggles to justify its "full-price" re-release.
Ys X: Proud Nordics is coming out, filled with additional content and some quality-of-life changes for the action RPG.
Ys X: Proud Nordics review covering new content, performance, and whether this enhanced version justifies a second purchase.
Landlubbers, ahoy! Adol is back in the definitive release of his latest adventure. Ys X follows the red-haired adventurer on his quest across Obelia Gulf with the sea-faring Normans.
Even if it's the definitive way to experience Ys 10 with some genuinely fun new content, Proud Nordics only further showcases what could have been.
A seafaring reinvention that redefines Adol’s legacy with bold systems and braver storytelling.
Admittedly, the absence of a co-op option is a missed opportunity given the dual-character focus, and for those who already own the original release, the price of this edition might feel steep relative to the new additions. Still, Ys X: Proud Nordics‘ journey through the Obelia Gulf is one filled with enough drama and mystery to satisfy those looking for a solid action adventure.
