Professional reviews from gaming critics
Sorry We’re Closed is a divine contender for best adaptation of nostalgic ‘90s gaming while reaching the tier of 2010s handheld era titles. A must-have and a must-want for anyone without a PC.
It’s been three monotonous years since Michelle and her ex broke up and she isn’t taking it well. It doesn’t help that her ex appears on a popular soap everyone on her block watches. But Michelle perseveres, working her dead-end job and talking to people around the neighborhood. That all changes one night when, after closing up the corner store she works at, Michelle heads home and turns in for the night. A bump in the night turns to green pouring out from the cracks in her front door u...
Sorry, We're Closed does a lot of things well: storytelling, organic world building, and writing. It even adds in its own twists on the horror genre, like the neon presentation and the way it delivers combat. The Third Eye makes for a nice touch as well. Aiming can be a finicky problem unless you turn on aim assist, and the game likes to throw a lot of enemies at you. Even with all that, Sorry, We're Closed is an easy recommendation and necessary content for anyone even claiming to be a horror fan.
Sorry We're Closed is a beautiful horror game that opts not to use the terror that players would expect. Instead, it focuses on crafting a beautiful story focused on the concept of love, plus creating characters, gameplay mechanics, and an artistic direction that will stay with you long after the credits roll. Despite the lack of emphasis on horror, the game is still an unforgettable experience that I will be thinking about for a long time.
Sorry We're Closed is one of the most unique and memorable survival horror games we've ever played. The juxtaposition of bright colours and quirky characters against moments of true terror is unlike anything we've ever seen before, and the first-person combat mechanics manage to feel immensely satisfying and empowering while still retaining a sense of creeping dread. This is a world we won't soon forget, and unlike the protagonist's desire to shy away from love, we suspect you'll immediately fall head over heels for this one.
Sorry We're Closed is a cool game and a bit of a one-off. Ostensibly, it's a survival horror experience inspired by PS1-era examples, but there's more to it than that. It's also about relationships and love, in all their various forms. It's wonderfully weird, and we're here for it.
Sorry We're Closed is a nostalgic, single-player survival horror game with rich lore, deep characters and multiple endings. Explore unsettling locations with fixed camera angles. Fight in first person with demonic weapons. Open your Third Eye to see between worlds, uncover secrets and solve puzzles. PC version reviewed. Review copy provided by company for testing purposes.
Bold, raw and effortlessly stylish, Sorry We're Closed uses the building blocks of survival horror to tell a compelling and hard-hitting love story to brilliant effect.
Sorry We're Closed is a fantastic PS1-styled game that has an intriguing cast of characters, enjoyable gameplay mechanics, and great performance on the Steam Deck.
Sorry We're Closed is a gripping, unique experience that will appeal to fans of psychological horror and puzzles. Its atmosphere and story make it worth the challenge. However, its relative lack of action may turn off some players.
Moving on from a relationship is hard, especially if you weren’t the one who broke it off. It’s a complex emotion and everyone deals with it in several ways. The main aspect is what you do about the loss of love in your life. Do you move on and live your life to the fullest? Or do you agonize about what could have been and yearn for them back? Before you figure out the answer, a demon decides to sink their claws into you. You must deal with them before your life moves on.
There's much to be appreciated, contemplated, and remembered in this playful, sometimes scary, sometimes provocative little game. Sorry We're Closed will hopefully be well-loved and appreciated in its time, but if the quality and vision are any indication, à la mode games is going to be a development team to watch.
