Being a visual novel, If Found… won’t be for everyone, but those willing to give it a try will find a beautiful and endearing story of self-acceptance. The gorgeous hand-drawn art and the story coming directly from a diary really give the impression of an insight to someone’s life, and the gameplay idea of actually erasing history and identity creates an intensely emotional experience.
If Found… really resonated with me. Not because the story was recognizable for me personally, but due to the nostalgic feeling it invokes in its use of the setting, characters and events. It’s a tale of looking back on your younger days, where life is a blur and every day can feel like an adventure. When you could still make bad decisions without consequences, but also from a perspective that shows growth, acceptance and change as a natural part of life. Dreamfeel is an Irish studio that identifies itself as a developer that "centers queer experiences," and If Found... is a great creation of what they want to represent.
Annapurna Interactive loves to publish little indie darlings of all shapes and sizes. It’s one of the reasons I have so much admiration for them. With titles like Telling Lies, Gorogoa, Outer Wilds, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Ashen, there’s something for everyone in their catalog as no two games are alike. Not every title is a masterpiece, but you can’t deny that they go out of their way to allow small studios express themselves freely through their art. If Found… from the devel...
