Cat Quest II Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Cat Quest 3 is not just the biggest and best game in the series-- thanks to its polish and thoughtfulness, it's also the best cat game right now. Heck, it might even be the best pirate game of this decade. It's a solid title that puts bigger and more expensive games to shame.
Cat Quest II is a great improvement over the original. The game offers a teensy bit more variety and a bigger world, so it starts trucking almost instantly. I do wish that your AI co-op buddy was a bit more competent, but that’s a minor gripe. All in all, though, the time flew by and the smile stayed on my face through almost the entire playthrough. This action RPG promises a wonderful treat if you're looking for a pretty dense game.
A great improvement from the first game, with more gameplay features and cat puns this time.
Cat Quest 2 is a fun and simple experience that’s designed to be enjoyed on the settee with friends and family. It’s not as complex or vast as some of action RPG titles, but it’s one that is enjoyable from start to finish.
If you don’t have a co-op buddy on hand though, Cat Quest II is still plenty of fun by yourself. Just be prepared to get annoyed at your AI companion from time to time, but at least you can switch between either character at your will. If you didn’t much enjoy the first Cat Quest, there’s not much to tempt you into the sequel; it’s very much more of the same. But if you did enjoy Cat Quest, then that should be music to your ears. It’s everything you loved, but just more of it.
Cat Quest II is relatively short, but I’d argue it’s as long as it needs to be. I didn’t feel a need to break from the adventure solely for the sake of grinding, and I finished before I grew bored of the simple gameplay loop. It’s fun, but it doesn’t have a lot of replay value to it either. The fun, for me at least, was in exploring all the various locales and finding new spells and equipment.
Although it has it's charm, there is little substance to this cat based pirate game. It is a game decidedly marketed at young children.
Because it is so similar to the original, and because the mechanics are still as bare bones as ever, Cat Quest 2 walks the line between enjoyable and vapid. Like the first game, the moment to moment game is completely forgettable – it’s built on a simple feedback loop of grinding, growing stronger and pressing forward into deeper and more dangerous territory. Nothing about this game is particularly bad or warrants criticism, but at this point the lack of ambition or innovation makes play sessions feel more tedious than anything else.
Singaporean developers released Cat Quest back in 2017, an adventure RPG with plenty of cute, funny felines: a lethal combination and sure-fire way to win at the Internets. As such, it received a sequel in Cat Quest II, with more of the puns and cats, as well as co-op multiplayer. Can the cats carry the whole yarn? Read on to find out.
Thoroughly enjoyed sc-ruff-ing up the countless enemy creatures and big baddies that I came across!
At the tail end of 2017, we were introduced to Cat Quest on a variety of home consoles and PC. It was a game that I really enjoyed and was pretty excited when its sequel was not only announced but that it would have local co-op and feature dogs in its pun-filled world.
