A seamless meeting of real-time microeconomics, absurdist humor, amazing character work, and a thrilling mystery lands Promise Mascot Agency among my favorite games of all time.

Promise Mascot Agency is a freaking fantastic title. It's a bit weird, yes, and it's absolutely not for everyone. But, for the people that end up ...

Promise Mascot Agency feels like a cult-game that was released in the PS2 and GameCube era. I say this with nothing but love, as you can tell that so much heart went into conveying a fun story, with lovable characters and a wonderfully designed explorable world. It’s rare to come across games these days that dare to be different: games that don’t default to comparing themselves to other games or studios. In an industry that is becoming more and more risk-averse, I was shocked by how refreshing Promise Mascot Agency feels. But above all that, Promise Mascot Agency is confident: confident in…

Promise Mascot Agency is a weird, flawed experience. You spend most of your time driving around this tiny town, chatting up a series of total weirdos. You’ve got a short list of tasks to complete, a lot of money to make, and a lot of fires to put out. But all of it is so engaging, so charming and fun, that you don’t mind one bit. This town is a complete, well-crafted world full of compelling characters and fascinating stories. Plus, the core gameplay loop is addictive and butter-smooth. I don’t know exactly how to recommend this game, but I can’t recommend it enough.

Promise Mascot Agency has such a weird premise—developed by the developers of the unique Paradise Killer, it’s an open-world game in which a former yakuza member manages an agency of anthropomorphic creatures posing as marketing mascots. It sounds weird, and we tested it out on PC and Xbox Series X alike for a review. Let’s go in our Promise Mascot Agency review!

Part management sim, part open-world adventure, this is both weird and familiar, and deeply comforting stuff.

Promise Mascot Agency is one of the most interesting games you're likely unaware of. It's got a lot of heart, incredible characters, and tons of fantastic stories.

Promise Mascot Agency is a fantastic game that has some minor issues here and there, but it's a joy to play on the Steam Deck!

Embark on a journey to the cursed town of Kaso-Machi in Promise Mascot Agency where you play as a disgraced Yakuza. Recruit mascots to your agency and make enough money to save your crime family. This new game by Kaizen Game Works delivers a fun comedic adventure that would fit perfectly in a Like a Dragon game.

Thanks to its genuinely intriguing narrative and collection of quirky characters, there's a lot to love about Promise Mascot Agency, and some players will simply adore it. This open-world adventure pretty much revolves around collecting items, however, and some elements of the game quickly become nothing more than a chore.

So, yeah. Not for me. Which is a shame, because I'm certain that if I kept playing, I'd keep finding more things that made me laugh or smile or spark more curiosity about the town's mysteries, but I'm not willing to push through any more of this cold and oddly soulless churn to see them right now. As a functional open map, it's a treat-sprinkled diorama. Static and mundane. As a management sim, the busywork is simultaneously so insistent and so lacking in complexity or choice that I ended up ...

How far will you go to help your family? Would you lend them some money? Help them to build a business to secure their future? Get exiled to a cursed town to turnaround a failing business while slowly dying? If you chose the last option, then you may have to check you have not transformed into Michi, the main character of weird and thoroughly charming Promise Mascot Agency.
