I've always had a "unique relationship" with the Metroid franchise. I knew of Samus Aran because of Smash Bros, and thus never played the original titles on the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Entertainment System, or Game Boy. In fact, I'm pretty sure my first title was Metroid Fusion, before getting…
In the eighteen years since Metroid Prime 3, a lot has changed in the world of game design and the world of Metroid. Over in the parallel world of Yoshio Sakamoto’s 2D Metroid series, Metroid Dread has made waves as a glorious return for classic Metroid. The Legend of Zelda, which was in many ways a sibling series to Metroid in terms of design, has become an open-world sandbox and reignited the series. But amidst that backdrop of reinvention and revitalization, Kensuke Tanabe and his team at Retro just seem interested in making Metroid Prime 4. A game that picks up its game design right wher…
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond makes a phenomenal move by relocating to the planet Viewros, endowed with vibrant beauty and environments worthy of the franchise. The adventure leans more towards linearity than exploration, as the environments are focused on telling the story of the Lamornians' past and giving us an experimental taste of alien technology like the Vi-O-La speeder bike, which leaves us wanting more. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a hugely entertaining experience with a gorgeous atmospheric world, but it just doesn't quite feel enough like Metroid.
Your objective: Explore the mysterious planet Viewros and find your way home. Step back into the suit as Samus Aran, one of the greatest bounty hunters in the galaxy, and scan your surroundings for clues on how to move forward. Battle abhorrent alien creatures who inhabit the planet, use mysterious psychic abilities to clear the path forward, and traverse the environment on the technologically advanced bike, Vi-O-La. The Metroid Prime 4: Beyond – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game is available ...
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is certainly a bit different from what I expected, but it’s largely a strong next step for the series. Though some bizarre padding and an oddly empty open world keep the game from being a stone-cold classic, Metroid Prime 4 is still a great experience that manages to mostly live up to its long wait.
Whenever a game goes through a lengthy and somewhat tumultuous development cycle, as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has, the first question that always buzzes around

Like a handful of current and former colleagues here at Nintendo Wire, I know exactly where I was the morning of June 13th, 2017. Packed into a hotel room
Metroid Prime 4 trades its Metroidvania roots for a more linear, Halo-like experience, but it rarely delivers. Here’s why it falls short.
Samus returns with 'Metroid Prime 4: Beyond' on Nintendo Switch 2. Does her latest FPS adventure live up to the series' legendary legacy?
