In 2017 the original EVERSPACE took me totally took me by surprise in the best of ways in what seems like an eternity ago. A lot has happened in the world since then and much has changed. One thing is constant and sure though and that is that ROCKFISH Games continues to pump out amazing, fun-to-

Everspace 2 tells an interesting story in a massive galaxy that's worth exploring, even if the limitations of its scope creep in from time to time.

No foolin’, back in April of this year I reviewed the PC release of Everspace 2. Spoiler: It was a great sequel to one of my favorite games. The original Everspace in 2017 was a roguelike and had a fair amount of procedural generation. Everspace 2 jettisons that formula for something akin to a hack-and-slash RPG, with fast-moving spacecraft taking the place of terra firma-bound characters.

EVERSPACE 2 had a bit of a rocky start just like its predecessor, but can still receive a standing ovation. With an incredible story, brilliant visuals, and sound design, this game is very close to being a masterpiece.

I started Everspace 2 deeply unsure about a space looter shooter. Tens of hours later I don’t want to play anything else. Everspace 2 is a towering achievement of space-based thrills and spills. It absolutely deserves your attention.

A phenomenal space combat game has a new sequel and although it's more structured, EVERSPACE 2 knocks it out of the stratosphere.

The original Everspace was a quirky and daring game in a genre that has remained stagnant since the 90’s. It was a looter shooter / roguelike space simulator. A hodgepodge of genres, but it worked. I really enjoyed it and played it across multiple platforms. It was my love for the original that made me skeptical of the genre pivot for the sequel, though. Instead of being a run-based roguelike, Everspace 2 is a traditional open-world space sim, just like Freelancer, Rebel Galaxy, Elite Dange...

Everspace 2 in isolation is a bold reimagining of Everspace as a series. And in most ways it delivers on that vision. World exploration is a little clunky but combat and progression remain as fun as ever. It is a more authored experience and that benefits the story and world it presents. On the other hand, outside of image quality, the Switch 2 is a surprisingly noticeable compromise as compared to the game running on Steam Deck. Yes I get a higher resolution but that only makes the level of detail changes more blatantly obvious. I’d be curious if a lower resolution sixty frames-per-second m…

Everspace 2 has released their shiny new DLC content, Titans. Boasting two new storylines, a bunch of new enemies to battle and all the sweet sweet space loot

Everspace 2 brings gorgeously rendered ships and a middling story, but can't quite make up its mind about being a space sim or a loot shooter RPG. Visually impressive, narratively and mechanically constrained, it could have been so much better.

On Switch 2, this release delivers an exceptionally smooth, content-rich port of an addictive space shooter that managed to make me lose track of time, something I hadn’t experienced in a long time. Several hours into playing, I would still be flying around, eliminating outlaws, upgrading my ship, and telling myself that I’d just do one more mission. That is exactly the kind of game EVERSPACE 2 is, and it is all the better for it.

Despite the frustration of the level system, and the repetitiveness of some of the side content, I had a good time with the combat and flying at the heart of Everspace 2. This feels like a return to an older style of game, and I’d recommend it if you like spaceship games.
