Designed to be as breezy an experience as possible, Wandersong may be a bit too easy for some. Sure, there are some hazards to be aware of; you’ll often fall off ledges during some of the more tricky platforming sections, but the game is incredibly generous with its checkpoints, meaning you’ll always respawn just a few feet away from where you fell. It’s also quite lenient with the singing mechanic, so if you accidentally sing the wrong note at any point, you’re rarely penalised. The low level of difficulty fits in nicely with the overall tone of the game, so even though the story has high stakes along with plenty of poignant moments, there’s an ongoing feeling of happiness throughout the entire experience. If you’re after a unique experience, Wandersong completely has you covered. The singing mechanic works perfectly, and while it may feel a bit too easy at times, the combination of the visuals, writing, and various gameplay objectives across a generous seven-act structure make for an incredibly compelling platforming experience that you’d do well to check out.

Wandersong is a modern classic that is only held back from masterpiece status by some small but significant shortcomings. Still, few games this generation have compelled me to gush like this. Each of the game’s core elements — story, characters, gameplay, soundtrack, and visuals — combine with near perfect execution and the result is a game that you just have to play.

Wandersong is the most emotionally satisfying game I’ve played in 2018. It’s a rollercoaster ride through the spectrum of feelings, all wrapped up in a lovingly crafted construction paper world. I didn’t even know this game existed a month ago. Now, it’s one I’ll never forget.

Dance like nobody's watching in this charming adventure platformer.

The bard isn’t anybody’s favorite character class. Warriors get to stab stuff! Wizards can play with magic! Rogues get to be, well, rogue-ish! Bards…sing. Not that there’s anything wrong with singing, but it isn’t terribly helpful when you’re off on a world-saving adventure. In most RPGs, the bard’s job is to support the real heroes, and really, where’s the fun in that?

Wandersong takes an innovative spin on the adventure genre by incorporating a quirky musical bard on a journey to save the world. Learning the Earthsong not only requires seeking out the Overseers but winning the affection of helpful strangers along the way has its perks as well. Do you have the harmonic voice the world needs to survive?

Wandersong is definitely worth checking out on the basis of how different and unique it is. From the fun, new interaction method to the hand-crafted art style, this is something completely fresh.

Wandersong is a charming, heart-filled musical-adventure. For fans of the puzzle-adventure genre, there is a lot to be had here but where Wandersong really shines, lies in its spirited, charismatic characters and unique story line. Wandersong isn't afraid to make fun of the usual heroic tropes found in many games on the market, but still finds a way to make the player stay connected to what is going on. Come for the adventure, but stay for a song.

Wandersong is by no means perfect, but it is very different. Charm oozes out of every note and motion you make. Despite the technical glitches it is consistently winning and moving, with a lack of aggression and a genuine optimism that beams through like nothing else. It really will bring a smile to your face.

Wandersong’s hero is not a daring knight or sly rogue. He’s a bard and proud of it, constantly grinning and showering those around him with songs of mirth (even if they don’t want to listen). Thrust into the role of adventurer, he has to visit far off dimensions to learn a song to prevent the impending apocalypse. While the stakes are high, Wandersong’s proceedings are not grim. Like its goofy hero, this platformer/rhythm hybrid is dedicated to trying to make you grin.

A bard isn't the likeliest of heroes where saving the world is concerned, least of all one with such childlike optimism as the main character of Wandersong. In this side-scrolling adventure, you'll guide the nameless protagonist on his journey to stop a god from destroying the planet. Instead of searching for a weapon or some ultimate power to prevent the disaster, the Bard goes in search of the Earthsong, a tune that unifies all life in order to bring harmony to the world.

As delightful as Wandersong is though, it isn’t without its faults. The game has a severe bug that’s encountered every time you start the game. What it does is cut your jump height in half which will practically make certain segments completely undoable since you can’t reach the platforms required. It also makes the camera not able to keep pace with your movements, lagging behind and causing you to be running off screen as it slowly pans over to catch up. Pair both of these together and it makes the game completely unplayable. The beginning few hours felt like a frustrating nightmare as I loved every bit of the game that didn’t require me to have to fight with this camera and jumping issue but I eventually learned how to fix it. When the game launches simply minimizing the game and bringing it back up will completely fix the two bugs. It’s a glitch I’m surprised made its way into this build and hope it’s patched, but at least there’s a simple way to fix it; you just have to remember to do it every time you launch the game.
