Featuring a brand new engine that has been in development for nearly three years, The Sims 3 allows you to immerse your unique Sims in an open living neighbourhood right outside their door. The initial feature-set unveiled includes the new seamless, open neighbourhood, new Create-A-Sim, new realistic personalities and new unlimited customization.
The Sims 3 on the DS finally delivers an open-world god-sim experience, but it’s not without some minor frustrations. Karma powers don’t work nearly as well on the handheld as they do on consoles, but if you look at it as a bonus feature rather than an integral piece of the gameplay, it’s not a huge deal. If you’re looking for your Sims fix on the go, the third time is clearly the charm.
The Sims 3 is not an awful game; it's merely not well suited in its current form for the handheld. A few different modes that allow you more creative freedom to build a house and explore the Sims world would have done wonders for the game. The Sims has never been an easy game to succeed at, but at least it's been easy to understand how to play. On the 3DS, both aspects are too difficult.
EA really have cracked it this time. For anyone without a PC, The Sims 3 is the perfect port and it’s a great introduction to the franchise for anyone who enjoys the comfort of a sofa for their god-playing. The developers need to be commended for their efforts and if you like sandbox games, this is unmissable.
