The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom elegantly bridges old and new Zelda with grace and gusto. The Echoes system is inventive, the dungeon designs are strong and the whole experience feels like everything a classic Zelda experience should be. While minor performance issues hold Echoes of Wisdom back from being everything it could be, they're only minor blemishes on an otherwise stellar adventure fit for a princess.
Echoes of Wisdom is the latest in the long line of The Legend of Zelda adventure games. This Nintendo Switch entry marks the first original top-down iteration f
It’s up to Zelda and her wisdom to save the kingdom of Hyrule in a brand-new story in The Legend of Zelda series.
I’ll be honest: when The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was first announced, my initial reaction wasn’t the “oh boy, a brand new Zelda!!” burst of excitement you’d expect from such a momentous announcement, but more of a “this looks like a rushed reuse of assets” scoff, due to how uneventful Nintendo’s own reveal felt like. To be fair, my initial statement was quite unfair, as my favorite Zelda game of all time, Majora’s Mask, was exactly that, a rushed reuse of Ocarina o...
For the first time since The Legend of Zelda’s inception in 1986, the series’ namesake is finally the playable protagonist. Echoes of Wisdom is not a spin-off or a non-canon entry in the ongoing legend but rather a proper Zelda game filled with dungeons and puzzles. Getting to explore a version of Hyrule as Zelda is overdue, and efforts have been made to make sure it retains the feeling of a Zelda game, while undeniably trying something new. Echoes lacks the scale and grandeur of previous...
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is in many ways a return to the Link to the Past formula but in other ways presents something unlike any other Zelda game. For this reason it is likely to be one of the more divisive titles in the series. For myself it was an incredible and unique take on Zelda. The echo system shifts the perspective on combat and puzzle solving creating a fresh take on both. That being said it feels slightly afraid of fully committing and some additional control over your echoes would greatly enhance the depth of gameplay. Dungeons return to a quality we haven’t seen in…
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom flips the script, putting the fate of Hyrule on Princess Zelda’s shoulders. While the game offers a vast world to explore with charming visuals and music, it suffers from repetitive gameplay elements, as many challenges can be overcome with the same few Echoes, though it still provides enjoyable moments of creativity and discovery.
There’s a long-running joke in video game circles that I’m sure you’ve heard about the star of The Legend of Zelda actually being named Link, a sword fighter
As a lifetime fan of The Legend of Zelda, I've been amazed by how Nintendo has kept things fresh in recent generations and pushed the gameplay and storytelling forward in many ways so it wouldn't simply feel like "another LOZ title." I was curious what they would try next, especially…
The bed is mightier than the sword. For a long time, fans have inquired about making Zelda the protagonist of a Legend of Zelda game. [...]
Echoes of Wisdom is Nintendo’s first debut for a Zelda-led title, allowing the titular Princess to flex her creative muscle to save the Kingdom. While it can at times be charming, it lacks anything memorable in its foundation apart from the brief moments of joy you’ll get from using a few of its cle
