Tales of Berseria Remastered Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The “remaster” is good because the game itself is, but given some of the work we’ve seen in remakes and remasters in recent years, this one is far too pedestrian for its own good. I can’t help but wonder just how incredible Tales of Bersaria could have been if it was given a full-on remake to bring it to parity with the most recent new game in the series (Tales of Arise). That could have been something truly special.
Tales of Berseria Remastered may not really add much to the base game, but it's still a fantastic JRPG that you'd be a fool to miss.
Tales of Berseria released in 2016 in Japan and 2017 worldwide. After almost a full decade later, Bandai Namco has remastered the game via Tales of Berseria
Tales of Berseria is one of the most narratively ambitious entries in the franchise, and it still hits heights few other RPGs can – and packs in a few new bells and whistles to boot.
Is Tales of Berseria Remastered worth a double dip? Absolutely not. There’s no reason to get it if you already own the regular game (unless you have completionist OCD). Bandai Namco needs to be careful they don’t lose any good will with their fans, when so many other companies are offering free PS5 upgrades to PS4 games. But Remastered is now the best version of Berseria because of its few changes. It’s an excellent action JRPG. If you don’t already own it, Tales of Berseria Remastered has a phenomenal story, and fun combat. So get it if you haven’t already.
Tales of Berseria Remastered offers several new quality-of-life features that are great for new players but not necessary for longtime fans who have already experienced all the game has to offer.
Tales Of Berseria Remastered is an enhanced version of the Japanese action/RPG where you will encounter a myriad of characters and join them on challenging quests exploring the world.
Tales of Berseria Remastered is an odd release. The original game is still a good time problems and all, but this release feels less like a remaster and more like a port with some additions. It has all the DLC from the original but that just amounts to costumes, and it has some nice quality-of-life updates but nothing to buy a new game over. Still, this is a fine way to play Tales of Berseria especially now that it's finally on Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
The remaster of the 16th game in the franchise appeals to new audiences and causes controversy for those who already had access to the original version.
Tales of Berseria makes its way to modern consoles after nine years, but is Tales of Berseria Remastered actually worth buying? You can read all about it in the review!
Tales of Berseria Remastered makes this harrowing adventure much easier to experience, but it still doesn’t do enough to fix the issues that plagued the original release.
A visually stagnant retread of a modern classic, Tales of Berseria Remastered struggles to justify its price tag for returning players.
