If you want a match-3 puzzle game on the Switch, then definitely take a look. It’s a nice, casual puzzle game that might infuriate you on occasion, but will certainly keep you occupied.

Sparkle Unleashed is tremendously addictive and gets the basics of the genre right whilst adding a few changes to the mix. If you liked Zuma – which unfortunately for Sparkle Unleashed now runs on Xbox One via backward compatibility – you'll probably enjoy the challenge this provides, even if there isn't anything majorly groundbreaking going on.

The obviously limited progression model is endemic to my problems with Sparkle Unleashed. Despite a large number of levels, gameplay feels fairly derivative and somewhat repetitive. Like the games fantastic soundtrack, the gameplay can begin to feel like it is ceaselessly looping. The port onto the Nintendo Switch seems to have added little of real consequence to the game and, like all match three games, it struggles to be truly innovative. Addictive and entertaining, Sparkle Unleashed is a more than competent Zuma-style puzzler for Xbox One that's definitely worth a look. Go on. Get your balls out.

Do you remember the days when playing and collecting marbles was popular? No, we're not 100-years-old either, but even though times and technology have changed, Sparkle Unleashed has a familiar premise: you must arrange balls into order for personal satisfaction. The difference here is that your obsessive compulsive disorder isn't the sole thing at stake – after all, there are points, prizes, and – whisper it – Trophies up for grabs.
