I’m not sure how much I can recommend this HD remake for people who already got their Revelations fill on the 3DS, but if you haven’t played it before, Wii U is the way to go. It’s a fantastic game, and while I still disparage the plot and the insistence on having a partner everywhere you go in the Campaign mode, there’s nothing quite like it. Also, as I’ve said before, Jill Valentine in a catsuit in HD is reason enough to at least try the demo.

Resident Evil Revelations is a great handheld game, one that not only pushes the boundaries and standards of the Nintendo 3DS but one that recaptures a long-forgotten spirit of a classic franchise. Make no mistake about it, this is a full Resident Evil adventure that isn't watered down because it's in portable form. That's no small accomplishment. Despite its disappointments, Revelations will be remembered as one of the better entries in this series, and should serve as a notice to all other developers, including Nintendo itself - this is the type of production value we want to see on the 3DS.

Revelations, even with all the minor problems, manages to be a very good game. I personally had more fun with it than I had with Resident Evil 5 and 6. The game’s story also manages to be entertaining all the way through, despite how obvious certain plot twists are. However it is extremely disappointing that the HD version does not have split screen co-op gameplay in any form. I can understand that the 3DS couldn’t handle it, however this is a home console release, full price no less! For the 60$ price tag, I expect more than just a simple conversion. This is a huge missed opportunity. Even in the campaign mode the player always has a partner with them and Raid Mode offers online co-op. Considering these factors, it’s disappointing to realize that you can’t just sit down with a friend and play the game together on one system. I can begrudgingly accept the campaign not having any kind of co-op but Raid Mode should have been updated with split screen co-op for added fun. Raid Mode itself is fun and well thought-out, it’s one of the most entertaining minigames I’ve seen in the series so far. In fact, as Raid Mode actually lets you play through almost all stages of the campaign, it’s less of a minigame and more of a completely separate gameplay mode with plenty of characters and unlockables, ensuring a lot of replay value.

Resident Evil: Revelations is a superb return to form for the franchise, sadly let down by sluggish character movement and awkward combat.

While the big and ugly world of Resident Evil: Revelations loses some charm, plastered over a big screen, it saves itself by being a solid title for the most part. A good challenge is present for those that bear through it and there’s plenty of renewable content on the side to revisit its world. The 3DS version is still superior, locking players into a more constrained universe, but others can enjoy this game just as much.

With Resident Evil 7: Biohazard suggesting that the main entry games are again pivoting in a new direction, Capcom’s re-rerelease of Revelations may be its way of showing fans that it’s also committed to the “classic” Resident Evil formula with this side series. While the visuals have aged considerably in the short timeframe, the classic Resident Evil gameplay and feel is still there, complete with a bonkers B-grade storyline. I’d dare say that most Resident Evil fans have possibly found a way to have played this already, and there is really no incentive to come back for another roun…

Resident Evil Revelations is a fun and captivating game that now offers its best graphics and more content than ever. However, its modest origins as a 3DS game imposes certain gameplay limitations that puts it below everything that has come afterwards, relegating it to a filler status among the catalogue of Resident Evil titles available on current platforms.

Resident Evil: Revelations’ seafaring setting may bob and weave like a luxury cruise liner should, but beyond the nautical accessories that dress the Queen Zenobia’s corridor walls, this is a game that feels much more familiar than its crafty subtitle would lead you to believe. A high definition port of last year’s Nintendo 3DS exclusive, Capcom’s latest attempt at steadying its sinking series’ course practically pines for the success of previous entries. That’s evident in every inch of the adventure’s presentation – the luxurious antique ballrooms of Raccoon City replacing the sundrenched squalor of Resident Evil 5 and the incomprehensible flamboyance of its successor. But with the franchise seemingly lost like a castaway, is this spin-off even worth dipping your toes into?

At one point during Resident Evil: Revelations' soggy seafaring story, Jill Valentine refers to one of the T-Abyss virus-infected Ooze as a zombie. While that's not really technically true, the Ooze possess a number of zombie-like characteristics. They're slow moving, clumsy and if they get close enough, they'll try to suck the life out of you with their bizarre lamprey-like suckers.
