Resident Evil 5 is the seventh video game in the Resident Evil series. It features similar gameplay to Resident Evil 4 utilizing the same over the shoulder view, but this time the environment plays a significant role. It may not be a radically new Resident Evil 5, but the PC version of the game still manages to hold its own with an improved control scheme and extra Mercenaries mode. While the addition of costumes is somewhat minor, and you may require a few upgrades to your computer to take full advantage of what the game has to offer, you're exploring a great story and excellent gameplay. Plus, the inclusion of 3D is a harbinger of what gaming will probably become, and the effect is extremely nice if you have the opportunity to take advantage of it. Umbrella's virus hasn't completely evolved, but it's defi...

Without a doubt the biggest question mark above Resident Evil 5, both historically and today, is whether the co-op partner inclusion was worth it. If you’re playing by yourself, definitely not. But If you’ve got someone to play it through with, you’ve got one of the most well-crafted co-op experiences of the last generation available on a new generation of consoles. Grab someone to play it with, we really recommend it.

Resident Evil HD is a remake done right. Rather than bend over backwards to please a new generation of gamers, it proudly sticks by its roots and is better because of it. Those looking to try something "new" should look to the past with this spot-on remaster.

Resident Evil 5 heads in a different direction but remains a great entry to the series. If you aren't a die-hard fan of the franchise and want it to stay true to its roots, Resident Evil 5 is a fun action game to play with a friend.

Resident Evil 5 was received favorably when it first released in 2009, but playing it for the first time in 2019 I feel like it’s a disappointing step down from its excellent predecessor. Even the Switch port isn’t quite as good as RE4’s, running at an inconsistent framerate that never manages to hit 60fps—sometimes not even hitting 30fps. I had a good time playing through a chunk of the game online with a friend, but playing on my own was just dull. It’s probably true that RE5 was never going to live up to RE4’s legacy, but now, a decade after its original release, I think it even…

No, all that is gone. In its place is a game that is entertaining – don’t get me wrong – it’s just that being merely competent is in no way good enough for a game that should be the very text book definition of horror games. If you’re just looking for a good time or a co-op time waster, and haven’t played this yet, well, it’s cheap enough now. But if you’re looking for something remotely scary or creative, then you’re better off going with the deeply flawed, but well-intentioned Amy, also available for download on PSN.

It’s hard to say which version is superior, although if you like your visuals, the PC version is definitely worth checking out if you’ve got the hardware. Those worried about their ability to even get the game running on their rig should consider checking out the benchmark tool that was released prior to release. Other than that, it’s simply down to which platform you prefer.

The Resident Evil franchise stands out as one of the most well-known game franchises, spanning several console generations, and is the one of the grandfathers of horror games as we know them. Following the success of Resident Evil 4, the series now makes its debut on current-generation consoles, and sends the series somewhere it's barely ever been before: into the sunlight. The change of setting, and the addition of co-op gameplay, present some risks for the renowned series, but ultimately re...
