Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
With more content and two-player modes, this is the best version of the war between plants and the undead.
Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted is the definitive version of the original game, combining 2009’s PC version with content from the console and mobile releases. Some tweaks in the art style might not appeal to purists, and some bugs at launch needed weeding out, but it’s still a seminal tower defence and puzzle game that’s well worth playing today.
Plants Vs. Zombies Replanted is a faithful recreation of the original game that brings every bit of its charm and fun gameplay loop to modern platforms. It's as entertaining, unique, and quirky as it was back in the day, and is definitely worth diving back into if you loved the original release. If you haven't, this one's a treat!
Plants vs. Zombies: Transplanted manages to be the most complete and definitive version of the classic, integrating all the features of previous editions, including the cooperative campaign mode and boost. However, this return of Plants vs. Zombies clearly lacks polish. The experience is compromised by some visual and gameplay glitches. Furthermore, the intention to modernize the title loses its way due to the absence of online multiplayer support, which anchors the remaster to the past. Nevertheless, novice players will find Transplanted…
Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted is a worthy remaster of a classic, beloved game. When it was first announced, I was genuinely excited at the prospect of replaying this game. I imagine if you don’t have the same nostalgic feeling for Plants vs. Zombies, you might not share the same enthusiasm, but for fans, it’ll be nice to be back in the backyard. The updated visuals are crisp, but don’t expect anything too mind-blowing. I would have liked to see a deeper PvP mode, and the lack of any online mode might be a turn-off for some folks. The Co-Op mode is great and worth the price of admission alone. ...
If you’ve loved the 2009 version of Plants vs Zombies: Game of the Year Edition, you’ll certainly appreciate the graphical finesse of Plants vs Zombies:
Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted's attempt to remaster the original comes with questionable choices, but it's still a good way to get re-acquainted with (or introduced to) one of the quirkiest puzzle-strategy games of the 2000s.
If you've never played Plants vs. Zombies before, think of it like a cartoonish tower defense with a ton of style and charm. You play as the plants, and with the help of sunflowers (and other resource-generating plants later on), you'll pick up sun, which is used as a currency to create offensive and defensive plants. The team at PopCap managed to craft a wonderful, interactive onboarding experience, allowing even complete newcomers to the genre to pick it up in minutes.
There are far too many games from PopCap that I’ve played with my mother (shoutout to Bookworm and Bejeweled), but where both of our interests really aligned
Ya’ll, PopCap is dead and they’re not coming back. The maker of beloved puzzle games was absorbed by EA a while ago, and the franchises that we played to avoid doing work back in high school and college now no longer exist. It’s why we have things like Bejeweled Stars and why Bookworm hasn’t been heard from since Obama took office. But the core franchise, Plants vs. Zombies, still gets acclaim and occasional pushes to make it a thing again. Garden Warfare was decent, that weird mobile...
Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted is causing bad blood among loyal fans, but is that justified? We put on our gardening boots and investigated in the...
