It’s here. The successor to Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, Nintendo Switch Sports. Long gone are the classic Miis of the 3DS and Wii era, we now have Sport

Switch Sports will be adding golf in a future update, so there will be more than the six sports available on launch day in the future. While the online could sway the eventual review score one way or the other, I’m extremely positive on Switch Sports and look forward to playing it more with friends and family locally as well hopping online and unlocking new gear and equipment and trying to join the Pro Leagues. We’ll be back soon with a final verdict on Nintendo Switch Sports.

Play sports such as bowling, chambara and tennis, as well as three new additional sports including badminton, soccer and volleyball.

“Even with a few duds in the pack, Nintendo Switch Sports' highlights make it a must-own multiplayer party game.”

Wii Sports was amazingly popular and served as the perfect pack-in game for the Wii. Anyone who booted up the game could immediately see that the Wii’s motion controls weren’t just a gimmick and that the Wiimote set this console apart from any other that had come before it. As such, players have fond memories of that game and its sequel that introduced the Wii MotionPlus, Wii Sports Resort. So, many fans assumed that Nintendo Switch Sports would engender the same feelings. Unfortunately, it ended up feeling more like Wii Sports Club did for the Wii U.

Frustrations aside, there’s plenty of fun to be had in Nintendo Switch Sports, no matter how you choose to play. It’s a valiant nod back to Wii Sports, slightly more grown-up and refined this time around. Perhaps it’s not quite as fun – though maybe that’s just because we’re older and more world-weary than we were back in 2006 – but it’ll undoubtedly still be a game to pull out at any family gathering. It’s just a shame that earning new cosmetic items is locked to online play.

Nintendo Switch Sports is a fun reminder of the Wii Sports craze, bringing back some classic sports and adding some new ones that make use of the Joy-Con and motion controls in more advanced ways. It's all just a bit shallow, though, and difficult to wholeheartedly recommend unless you expect to play online a lot or constantly break it out for local head-to-head battles.

Wii Sports first came out in 2006 and took the world by storm. Being one of the first games to successfully implement motion controls in an engaging way, both

Nintendo Switch Sports has moments of fun, but they’re buried under forced, inaccurate motion controls and lacking minigames. Only 2 and a half of the six sports on offer here are really fun or engaging, character customization is shockingly sparse, and the novelty wears off in minutes. This feels more like a cheap imitation of Wii Sports, which was free, than anything close to worth the price of entry.

Nintendo Switch Sports is a great way to satisfy any urge to play motion control games. Unfortunately, it doesn't make any effort at being more than that.

It's possible that Nintendo will improve Nintendo Switch Sports with future updates, but that remains to be seen. It's known that Nintendo Switch Sports is adding golf in a future update, but otherwise Nintendo's post-launch plans for the game remain a mystery. There's a lot of work to be done to make Nintendo Switch Sports even half as fun as its predecessors, and as it stands now, it's a game that Switch owners can safely skip.
