Such A Banana Frenzy! My Friend Pedro is the banana bullet hell that you didn’t know you needed. In fact, it is Devolver Digital’s best title to date, offe
Almost perfect if not for the nitty-gritty. If it’s quite there but not enough to push the boundaries, it’s still an awesome game.
Every now and then a game comes along that takes elements from a number of places but still comes out being quite unique. My Friend Pedro certainly fits that
My Friend Pedro is an absolutely astonishing game, with so many elements of surprise. The combat is phenomenal with so many ways to attack your foes. My Friend Pedro is a game everyone should try, it's absolutely bananas!!
A banana teaches you to kill. But in a fun way.
Even with forty levels, My Friend Pedro can be beaten over the course of a few sittings. Walking away after would be missing the point, though, because anyone can bull their way through to the end with a bit of practice, but the real fun comes from doing it with style and efficiency. All those C-rankings from the earlier areas just don't feel right once you've got the experience to properly orchestrate the gun-chaos and earning consistent S-ranks would be much easier with the bonus from higher difficulties. I found a good friend by the name of Pedro recently. Why is he my friend? Why is he also a banana? No idea, but it's awesome.
For fans of action movies and stylish shooters that have wanted to experience The Matrix as a side-scroller, My Friend Pedro is a go, and at the current price point, it’s almost easy to recommend. Just move on to a higher difficulty after a while and on your repeat plays.
My Friend Pedro is a game about finding a particular moment. Usually, you’re upside down and falling in slow motion, watching as the bullets from your pistol ricochet off the broad side of a frying pan and zoom toward a foe’s skull. In these instances, Pedro’s systems come together in bloody harmony, letting you conduct a goofy and violent symphony of bullets, dodges, and even the occasional punt of a decapitated head. However, the sheer amount of effort it takes to reach these moments of glory often makes the enterprise more trouble than it’s worth.
When My Friend Pedro was announced back at E3 2018, it was a title I was very eager to try, not mention curious about its controls and the fact that you’re led around dozens of violent set pieces by a banana. For as crazy as its premise is, its ballet of violent destruction is even more so, offering
As I flicked switch after switch and roly-polyed through each generic challenge, the game's early levels and that glorious GIF felt like a distant memory. My Friend Pedro does let you realise the fantasy of conducting a bullet symphony while hanging upside down from a zipline, but like most fantasies, it doesn't survive past the initial rush of blood to the head.
