Professional reviews from gaming critics
While the challenge is steep, the remake of Drill Land adds more flexibility in the difficulty. The game is still not easy, but is well worth experiencing for how brilliantly an overall simple design is iterated on between the five modes. Also, replaying levels means you get to hear the soundtrack more often, which is a treat because the soundtrack might be the best part of an already fantastic game. Ultimately, it’s a shame it took 18 years before Mr. Driller Drill Land made it to America. We’ve missed out on an absolute marvel of an arcade puzzle game that is jam-packed with personality…

Pricing discrepancies aside though, Mr. DRILLER DrillLand is easy to recommend. It’s bright, bold and colourful, and most importantly, a lot of fun to play. It’s simple to get the hang of, but each separate game mode requires serious practice to truly master. If you enjoy the simple pleasures of a classic arcade-style game, you can’t go far wrong here.
Finally making its way out of Japan for the first time, Mr. Driller DrillLand is still the best entry in this niche puzzle franchise and fits right at home on the Nintendo Switch.
The presentation of Drill Land is incredibly cute, both in its visuals and its audio. Everything is round and clean, while the characters all look different and suited to their personalities while adhering to the game’s pleasant style. The music is upbeat and bubbly, and gets you in the mood to dig on whatever stage you play.
