Professional reviews from gaming critics
It’s been a while since the last Monster Hunter Stories game – though the first two did get an upgraded re-release on all consoles in recently – and Capcom has returned to the series with gusto. Bringing a level of vibrant colour that I thought was illegal in the RE Engine, Monster Hunter Stories 3 Twisted Reflection once again asks the question, “What if we could all just be friends (and then fight other people)?”
With the 3DS nearing the end of its lifespan, games like this are often left to the wayside; but for loyalists and those not quite ready to upgrade, Monster Hunter Stories is definitely a game worth picking up. With a fun battle system that doesn’t rely on grinding to level up, and a bright and open world to explore, Monster Hunter Stories takes its namesake in a completely different and impressive direction.

With the release of Monster Hunter World, the franchise entered the mainstream with a kung-fu kick. It is now, arguably, Capcom’s main franchise, with each new iteration selling like absolute gangbusters. It made sense for Capcom to re-release and re-promote as many niche spinoffs and additional material they could. Why not re-release the former Nintendo 3DS excl...
If it weren’t for the prevalence of strange control issues, Monster Hunter Stories on PC would be an easy recommendation for fans of Pokémon or other creature-based RPGs. Without those issues, it is a charming and smart RPG with some fun, unique ideas and smart design.
Capcom has revitalized the original Monster Hunter Stories by releasing it on PC and making it compatible with the Steam Deck.
The cuteness of Monster Hunter Stories returns remastered for PS4, Switch, and PC. This turn-based RPG offers joyful hours in an adventure full of love, friendship, and colorful Monsties you can even ride.
The third entry in Capcom's spinoff series is a deep, uniquely Monster Hunter-flavored RPG that's anything but twisted
