Professional reviews from gaming critics
Mario Tennis Fever stands out as a delightful tennis game, even to someone as uninterested in sports games as myself. A bit too much of the story mode is a very slow tutorial, but the plethora of match types to try and the rock-solid core tennis gameplay make this a fantastic time all around.
Mario Tennis Fever is the latest in the long-running series. Each entry involves Mario and his pals from the Mushroom Kingdom taking to the court in action-pack
Mario Tennis Fever is a blast, easily one of Mario’s best sports games in recent years.
Mario Tennis Fever serves a content-rich ace on Switch 2, revitalizing the franchise with inventive "Fever Rackets" and a charming, albeit brief, "Baby" campaign.
Mario Tennis Fever is a game that knows exactly what it wants to be and doesn't try to force anything else. Its greatest strength lies in how it manages to combine accessibility with real depth, allowing anyone to enjoy it from the first match, while still leaving room for those who want to master its systems, advanced controls, and combinations. The campaign, although charming in its presentation and full of good ideas, becomes quite tedious. Even so, when it comes to competition, especially with friends, it's one of the most fun games you'll find on the Switch 2.
Mario Tennis Fever offers a fantastic tennis experience with plenty of ways to play.
It has amazingly been a quarter of a century since Camelot Software Planning first started creating Mario Tennis titles. The patriarch of this series is now

Even though Mario Tennis Fever isn't perfect, it's still the best the series has been since Mario Power Tennis on the GameCube. Mario Tennis Fever is a fun time for anyone, and it’s the kind of game that starts with one match and turns into hours with friends. Not every part of the game delivers, but despite those stumbles, it's still a great addition to the Nintendo Switch 2 library.
On the Game Cube app, there is Mario Strikers. That is an excellent example of a time where Nintendo and its party sports developers had a handle over the balance between capturing the basics of the sport and making it arcade fun. Now, though, they’ve lost the plot entirely. I genuinely don’t understand who this is for, but it isn’t me. Or anyone that I know who loved what Mario Tennis once was.
Mario Tennis Fever is content-rich, mechanically deep, and designed for every type of player without compromising any of them
Mario Tennis Fever is one of the best Mario sports games in years. Does it solve all the issues we've seen in the genre over the past decade? No, and sadly, it suffers a lot of the same problems when it comes to depth. Thankfully, the one thing it gets right is its incredible gameplay, which keeps you coming back for more. It's not perfect, but Mario Tennis Fever is a much-needed step in the right direction.
