Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
When it comes to DLC, Nintendo has cultivated a reputation for providing substantial content, and here Ubisoft continues that tradition. The humor that was spot on in Mario Rabbids translates perfectly to the Donkey Kong franchise. With all the great titles on the horizon it can feel difficult to circle back to a one year old game, but Donkey Kong Adventure is a can’t miss experience that so far ranks as one of the best for 2018.
It’s not often you get something like Kingdom Battle, and while I feel like kids expecting an easy adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom will be in for a bit of a shock, those craving a deep, strategic, and uniquely different escapade through the Super Mario universe will be met with a game that shines as one of 2017’s best.
When Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot and Shigeru Miyamoto took the stage this past E3 to reveal that the Mushroom Kingdom would be infected with the unhealthy dose of Rabbids, few were surprised as the title had been leaked nearly seven months prior by video game journalist, Laura Kate Dale.
With enough challenge and unique enough mechanics to satisfying tactics fans and plenty of charm and options to appeal to fans of both brands, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle proves that even as outlandish as a concept may sound, it can become an amazing game more than worthy of your time.
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is a wonderfully pleasant surprise that masterfully accomplishes almost everything that it tries to do.
When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.
Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle was a title that nobody ever saw coming yet somehow, everyone knew about it months before an announcement. When the first
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is the story of an unexpected encounter between the most famous video game character, Mario, and the irreverent and chaotic Rabbids as they join forces to restore the Mushroom Kingdom, which has been torn apart by a mysterious vortex.
I was hardly the first to express my initial distaste at the thought of Rayman’s detestable detractors - the Rabbids - crossing into Mario’s universe and shooting people. Things didn’t get better as Rabbid Peach was shown in promotional art looking… somewhat unhinged, and plenty of doubt was cast on the game. But much of that dissolves once you play it. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle might be one of Mario’s most inventive and outside-of-the-box adventures to date, and the Rabbids actually make for fun characters for Mario and his pals to share their tale with.
Ubisoft and Nintendo got together to make a crossover. Instead of a platformer, RPGamers get Mario and Rabbids married together with XCOM style combat.
It’s hard not to like the Rabbids. Their wacky antics and comedic style make for charming and simply silly games. Merge that with the lighthearted and fun world of Mario and you are in for a good time. These words are ones that you would think you’d never say, yet here we are: Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has to be the quickest turnaround in history for a game’s response, where one moment we are condemning its potential but the next singing its praises. Not only does the game look good in trailers but in action it’s a new classic.
