LEGO Party Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
The biggest test for me with LEGO Party has been longevity and I’m writing this review after having this game in family rotation for more than a month. It’s a hit, fully supplanting Mario Party. My oldest (7 years old) has played countless rounds by himself. We’ve played tons of rounds together as a family and LEGO Party has been a consistently fun time. I still don’t really know what the plot of Ninjago is, but I’m still having a blast playing this virtual board game.
An interesting collection of mini-games presented with great charisma in a unique style, like a variety show.
Party games are a delightful way to spend time with friends and family, and Nintendo have long held the party videogame crown with the Mario Party franchise.
LEGO Party! is a 4-player party game that allows you to customize a LEGO minifigure and compete in 60 minigames themed around fan favorite LEGO sets.
The LEGO franchise is best known for unique, comedic entries across all kinds of genres. We’ve seen hugely popular action games based on comic books like LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and wild, creative co-op experiences like LEGO Voyagers. Anything and everything can be a LEGO game. When it comes to party games, I […]
LEGO Party arrives on the Switch 2 with a host of new content and refinements that make this the definitive way to play.
A lively and charming party game that captures the spirit of Mario Party while adding its own signature LEGO humor and impressive customization options.
LEGO Party! is a fun title that has a lot of differences from other titles you have played. Some weird comments and bugs pop up, but it’s still fun to play.
LEGO Party is a rather enjoyable party game that takes the best parts of Mario Party and mixes them with some neat new additions. The way that luck can completely flip a game isn’t my favorite thing, but if you don’t mind the silliness that comes with this sort of game, there’s plenty to do in this one.
The Lego franchise has tried its tiny-clawed plastic hand at nearly every video game genre going. We’ve had platformers, shoot ‘em ups, racers, co-op adventures, puzzlers, even a Super Smash Bros clone. But, rather oddly, never a party game. That’s where Lego Party comes in, offering fun, frolics and laughter for all the family across its impressive range of silly yet satisfying mini games.
As a result of these misfires, Lego Party finds itself in a position where there’s a lot to like about it and bravo to SMG for looking for ways to be creative while also producing a blatant Mario Party clone. On the other hand, it does show that where Nintendo has been producing them for decades now, this is a rookie effort. Perhaps part of the issue is that I played it on a Nintendo console, when I have the alternative sitting right there on the hard drive. On other platforms that don’t have a Mario Party, I can see this resonating more strongly. Unfortunately, though, I can’t see it be…
LEGO Party is a safe mimicry of the genre popularized by Mario Party, but that’s the exact type of game that non-Nintendo platforms have never seen and desperately needed. While it can’t match the charm of the inspiration it brazenly wears on sleeves, it’s still a respectable party game that actually manages to pin down most of the things that make Mario Party a hit in the first place, all while charging less to boot!
