Bring a new meaning to Avengers Assemble!

Feb 2, 2016

Lego Marvel’s Avengers combines the winning Lego formula with top-of-the-line visuals to bring you a title the whole family can enjoy.

The score is practically just the Avengers OST directly laid over the top, but one of the most grating things is the fact that 90% of dialogue is ripped straight from the movies – background audio included. While this is clearly done to make the game a little more authentic, it is really jarring to not only hear the same quotes over and over again, but the sounds from the movie still embedded in the clip and not scrubbed from it. It almost seems rushed, as though they had a day before release to get it done, and it really takes you out of it.

Despite my misgivings of the LEGO franchise, there’s no denying their success and popularity. It may reuse an age-old template, but it’s one that works and that never fails to bring some kind of enjoyment, no matter your age or gaming preferences. Anybody can pick up and play a LEGO game, and that’s part of the reason people keep coming back to them, time after time. As always, there’s plenty of gameplay – upwards of 40 hours if you’re looking for true completion – so you can be sure you’ll get your money’s worth. If you’re a fan of Marvel, and not yet tired of the LEGO game formula, then LEGO...

A few new wrinkles such as the team-up attacks and the really cool audio part of the presentation are quite welcome, and I think these superhero games lend themselves to the TT Games better than most genres due to the large number of unique skills. It’s reliable fun, but we keep saying this – TT Games needs to start bringing some genuinely original new ways of looking at LEGO, or the scores will start to fall as people get very tired of doing the same thing over and over again.

In conclusion, this another Traveller's Tales LEGO game, with all the baggage that entails. As an example of the breed, it's a very good one, but the age of the model is now starting to show and some sort of revolution (rather than a gradual evolution) must now be overdue. However, given the strength of the source material of these films, it makes a very decent fist of being a good game, as opposed to just being one of the better LEGO games.

We have a Hulk (a few actually).

Experience the first video game featuring characters and storylines from the blockbuster film "The Avengers" and the sequel, "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

Not even a Hulk can save Lego Marvel's Avengers from its tiresome gameplay mechanics. Smashing apart bricks isn't fun anymore, and, unfortunately, Developer TT Games doesn't realize that yet. Even a wide variety of content can't save the game from being boring to play. Recommended for kids with posters of Iron Man in their rooms—and a pass for everyone else.

If you’re looking for an exciting, LEGO superhero game, you won’t find it in the 3DS version of LEGO Marvel’s Avengers. The simple and intuitive gameplay and charming humor can’t save this game from its performance issues. Inconsistent framerate, a muddled story and a poorly rendered open world keep LEGO Marvel’s Avengers from being mighty.

The latest Lego game takes the movies you love and doesn't do a whole lot with them.

Feb 4, 2016

Lego Marvel's Avengers is often fun to watch, and some of the Lego magic is there. The humor and goofiness keep things moving when the rest of the game threatens to grind to a halt. But not even Lego charm can overcome all of Lego Marvel's Avengers' design and technical problems.
