Lego Horizon Adventures won't top any game of the year lists, but it's an enjoyable retelling of Aloy's first story, mixed with witty, Lego Movie style writing, and gameplay that will entertain the whole family.
The announcement of Horizon Zero Dawn getting its own Lego title came out of left field, but playing Lego Horizon Adventures is all one needs to put any doubts and concerns to rest. Lego Horizon Adventures takes the best aspects of the Lego and Horizon series and delivers a surprisingly compelling experience thanks to its adorable graphics, endearing characters, high customization and approachable gameplay loop. It’s a title that kids and adults alike can enjoy
Lego Horizon Adventures is at its core a Lego game, but one that branches out from its usual IP stylings to add humor and a bunch of fun gadgets to the Horizon world - all while reigning it into a more condensed experience.
I do think the overall shallowness is a shame, and a game that looks this interesting was begging for a photo mode. It is also great to see Sony release this title on PC and Nintendo Switch on day one, even if the console war gods still demand that Xbox be sacrificed on the altar of platform partisanship. Ultimately, Lego Horizon Adventures is a solid title for kids, or to play with kids, but it’s hard to escape the idea that those same kids are likely a little bit smarter than the challenges that are on offer here.

LEGO Horizon Adventures struggles under the weight of expectation, whilst never managing to find an identity or audience of its own. Fun combat encounters and great visuals lose out to an otherwise shallow experience.

Too simple and childish for adults, and too one-note to convert the kids, Lego Horizon Adventures does little to recommend it to either existing Horizon fans or series newcomers.
