Granblue Fantasy: Relink Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Granblue Fantasy, as a franchise, began life as a free-to-play RPG for mobile phones, before making its console debut in the fighting genre. As someone that struggles to memorize specific button prompts to execute moves, I ultimately skipped that game, Granblue Fantasy: Versus. I would admire from afar until finally, a mainline, non-F2P JRPG within that universe was announced. I was pretty gleeful, but that was also eight years ago, when I wasn’t in my thirties. Thinking about it, this situ...
From the surface, Relink looks to be a fairly straightforward adventure; however, it has a level of depth that finds itself wearing its influences close to its chest, offering just enough content and mechanics to deepen its fast-paced gameplay.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok | Review | The expansion to Cygames' JRPG that doesn't give players any concessions.
With new features primarily focused on the post-game campaign, we have here an even more complete and fun title for both newcomers and experienced players.
Endless Ragnarok is a substantial expansion that significantly expands upon the combat systems, character build options, and advanced quest offerings of the 2014 game. However, the narrative weight of this DLC is not comparable to the number of quality-of-life improvements and new advanced quests. Thanks to this, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is more appealing than ever to new players, and its DLC provides a new reason for those who have already completed the game to return—once again—to Cygames' universe.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink - Endless Ragnarok, a review of the excellent action jRPG based on the famous mobile game, which has now been released in an enhanced edition.
Endless Ragnarok isn’t a game changer for Granblue Fantasy: Relink, but it does stock the base game with better-balan...
Relink's major expansion is highly impressive, but it's important to set expectations of what it brings; it doesn't completely revamp the game from top to bottom, but it builds upon the endgame of Cygames' action RPG with many new quests, characters, and systems to power-up your roster once more.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink isn’t a game that I’d suggest for everybody, but if you’re a JRPG fan looking for something new to try and enjoy I’d say you can’t go wrong. With a fun roster of characters, beautiful art, and fast, energetic gameplay, I can’t wait to revisit Relink.
I am nothing short of blown away by Granblue Fantasy: Relink. It blends the action RPG elements of soulsborne titles with exactly what’s desired from JRPGs and throws in a dash of gacha fun to create a game that’s filling and always flavorful. Just when I think it’s going to get tired and boring, it surprises me and holds my gaze all the more fiercely. Best of all, the game can be played entirely offline, meaning long-time fans of the series who have suffered through server outages no l...
However, I do think that Ragnarok is a sign that the fledgling series (of one title so far) could go the wrong way. I appreciate that the DNA of a free-to-play property is the Granblue name, obviously, but the console titles should be an opportunity to build the name into something meaningful. Not just continue to churn out endless content to keep people playing.
While Granblue Fantasy: Relink does boast excellent combat with true variance between its many characters, the predictable narrative robs it of any motivation while removing the sense of adventure from the game.
