Professional reviews from gaming critics
Godfall is a godlike load of fun to play. I am a firm believer in giving games a second chance and this one is no exception. Gameplay is smooth and uncomplicated, as is really the rest of it, making it easier to get into, and it’s oh-so-satisfying.
Godfall is often great in its moment to moment gameplay, though fails to ever make anything of its story. It's a fun time, but never feels like it reaches its full potential.
Godfall’s structural failings hinder its promising foundation from realizing its potential. Read the full review on Godfall by Twisted Voxel.
Godfall is a next-gen looter-slasher, set in a bright fantasy universe filled with heroic knights and arcane magic.
Godfall review for PS5 and PC. Godfall is a game that’s stuck in time. The graphics and combat are top-notch, delivering what you’d expect of a modern hack-and-slash with some unique aspects thrown in the mix. However, when it comes to story and game design, Godfall feels more like it’s out of the early-2000s. Unfortunately, this produces a title that makes an excellent first impression that quickly fades to monotony.
There’s something special here, but the gem that is Godfall is buried deep underneath a pile of issues and lackluster content. Godfall hamstrings most of its good ideas, crippling the game out of the gate. Offering multiplayer but no matchmaking or cross-play, throwing numerous enemies at you at a time without a way to toggle between targets, forcing you to chase after enemies hitting you with projectiles when your only long-range attack is on a too-long cooldown, and of course, that $70 price tag. It will be interesting to see what shape Godfall is in a year from now, but I suggest you hold o...
A visually stunning game, Godfall suffers from repetitive combat and a lackluster story that is forgettable after the first hour. In an industry with so many Dark Souls-style games, this is not one to spend time on.
The next generation of consoles is finally here and like all console releases, we look for the games that really push the hardware to the limits. Games that show us what the next-generation will look like for years to come. May it be with fancy graphics or new gameplay that we’ve never seen before. Godfall promises to be that game, the worlds first “looter-slasher, melee action-RPG”. A bold claim, considering the Diablo franchise exists. Unfortunately, this is a game that lacks any ori...
It's hard to say whether Godfall will receive the support it needs to really help with its longevity in the long run. We've seen so many live service games get a lackluster launch, only to flourish a year or two later. Sea of Thieves did it, No Man's Sky is practically the poster boy for "games that bombed at launch before getting redeemed later", and I hear Fallout 76 is actually decent now.The same could happen for Godfall, but at least for now, unless you're really itching to play a brand new looter game, you can probably give this one a pass.
Like other looter-style games, Godfall could become a much more appealing prospect in time. Godfall's $70 price tag works against it big time because as it stands, it's difficult to recommend such an expensive game to anyone when it recycles the same content repeatedly throughout the entire experience. Godfall's core combat mechanics are great and it's a visually-impressive experience, but gamers may want to wait and see if the game gets some compelling post-launch content updates first.
Godfall is exactly how I remember most launch games being for new hardware; an incredibly basic premise, visually striking, but dramatically shallow. That said, Godfall still does a lot right, offering a fairly enjoyable 10-15 hour experience while it lasts, but its story and world did absolutely no
