F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch, the inaugural effort of Shanghai-based game developer TiGames, is one hell of an introduction.
With the inclusion of a new difficulty option, F.I.S.T. Forged in Shadow Torch brings challenging combat and atmospheric world to more players resulting in an amazing example of the genre.
Even in the face of some of these issues, though, F.I.S.T. endures because in the moment-to-moment gameplay, it’s incredible as long as you’re not getting your butt kicked in combat kill rooms. Refinement along the troublesome fringes would take a good game and make it fantastic, but even still, F.I.S.T. is a fun ride. Contrary to the aforementioned buzz, though, truth be told, it isn’t quite at the same level of Metroid Dread (but what is?). This team is clearly onto something, though, and I wouldn’t be surprised if their next effort in this space gives Samus a real run for her money.
F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is a dieselpunk-style action adventure featuring an anthropomorphic bunny wielding a huge, weaponized metal fist.
F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch is a very beautiful Metroidvania with some backtracking that won’t interfere with your exploration of the game’s story. The plot is able to easily grab and hold players’ attention without being boring. The game also features some interesting decisions when it comes to classic Metroidvania mechanics.
F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow is a very competent, very good-looking foray into the Metroidvania genre with solid platforming and exciting, demanding arcade combat. Torch City is a wonderfully-grim place to get lost in and it's rendered gorgeously, despite some awkward signposting at times. Most of all, it nails the sense of exploration and steady progress that's a hallmark of the genre and it does all of that with a kick-arse rabbit in a mech suit for a protagonist. If this is the level of quality that studios backed by the China Hero Project are going to deliver then the program has more than m...
I had a few bugs in my Epic Games Store version of the title, as I was, unfortunately, unable to find a contact for the game’s publisher in time for the launch into Game Pass. They were all graphical, with some odd textures on enemies and a few times where a door showed it was closed but in reality, it was open. I will try to check out the Xbox port post-launch and update this section if possible.
An engaging 2.5D platforming adventure with rich visuals and furry creatures, F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch has all of the right ingredients you'd expect from any good metroidvania, as well as a few tricks of its own. It's certainly one of the most enjoyable games featuring a rabbit with a huge metal fist I've ever played.
F.I.S.T. is the latest in what feels like the forever-growing list of metroidvania games. Fortunately, where so many games come out and disappoint in this genre
When the issues of a game are rolled and stomped by its greatness, then it’s something to invest on if you have some spare.
The odd gameplay issue aside, F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch is one of the most enjoyable Metroidvanias you can play right now. While you probably won’t care about its story, it’s easy to fall in love with the game’s detailed world and somewhat cute characters. It’s the thrilling combat and raft of collectibles and upgrades to find that will have you going back to it time and time again, however, keen to make Rayton the powerful hero he’s destined to be.
In terms of Metroidvania aspects, F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch shines, but the gameplay is clumsy and the plot is hard to take seriously.
