Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon Classic HD Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
It would be easy to dismiss Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD- as being too archaic for the modern audience, even with the quality-of-life changes and HD-2D visual treatment. The narrative and gameplay loop just aren’t the way modern development would consider “best practice.” On the other hand, we learn to appreciate literature that was written hundreds of years ago and modern books aren’t written like that. The original Mystery Dungeon is finally officially available in English!
Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD- can't quite hang with the kids, but I'm so glad it's playable in the west now.
Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD- is an HD-2D remaster of Torneko no Daibōken: Fushigi no Dungeon.
Torneko's Mystery Dungeon retains the tense, methodical appeal of classic roguelikes, with satisfying resource management and meaningful risk.
Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD- follows weapons merchant Torneko from Dragon Quest IV as he chases his dream of owning the greatest item shop in the world.
Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon Classic HD isn't your usual adventure, but it is worth playing.
An unadulterated title that brings legacy and history, while forgoing contemporaneity.
Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon -Classic HD- is a seed from another era that helped shape a genre now firmly established in the industry. It's not the most outstanding of the family and can be more punishing than usual, but like any ancestor, Torneko deserves the respect of modern players who, more than three decades later, can experience where it all began. Perhaps it's the reboot of new adventures in the mysterious dungeons of Dragon Quest.
Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon is a very challenging Roguelike game with some cool quirks and soul crushing difficulty.
The idea of releasing a Super Famicom-exclusive title for the general public is good, but it doesn't go much further than that.
